“Mui Ne Museum of Antiquities” is the name of the non-public museum owned by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An (Mui Ne Ward, Phan Thiet City), which has just been granted an operating license by the People's Committee of Binh Thuan Province. This is the first private museum of antiquities in the province, contributing to preserving historical memories and cultural beauty of the nation.
Mui Ne Antiquities Museum officially came into operation from October 5, 2023 according to the provisions of Circular No. 18 dated December 31, 2010 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, under the State management of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan and local authorities. The museum is located in Quarter 5, Mui Ne Ward, Phan Thiet City, and offers free admission for visitors. The museum displays more than 40,000 artifacts and antiques of historical, cultural and economic value, dating from 1,500 years BC to before 1975, divided into many topics. Including artifacts of Dong Son culture, jewelry of Oc Eo culture, Khmer culture, Sa Huynh pottery, Go Sanh pottery of the Cham people in Binh Dinh, antiques of Dinh, Le, Ly, Tran dynasties, artifacts serving religious beliefs; Cham statues, ancient tombstones through the ages, Southern ceramics... Notable among them is the 20-bar lithophone set he collected in Bao Loc (Lam Dong), dating back more than 3,500 years.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An (born in 1975) is currently the Chairman of the UNESCO Club for Research and Collection of Binh Thuan Antiquities. Since the age of 12, he has had a passion for collecting broken pieces of pottery from jars, vases, and cups of Sa Huynh and Cham cultures found on coastal sand dunes to bring back for research and study. With the knowledge he learned from archaeologists and ethnologists, he has recognized and classified types, and determined the age through patterns, types, and materials. He has donated thousands of valuable artifacts to museums in and outside the province and universities for display, serving visitors, and teaching. Passionate, knowledgeable, and diligent in research, he has opened a gallery at his home for many years to serve visitors free of charge.
Thus, the establishment of Mui Ne Antiquities Museum will contribute to preserving and keeping priceless cultural treasures in the development process of the nation. It clearly demonstrates the cultural picture, religious life, and spirit of the Vietnamese ethnic community in general and Binh Thuan in particular, thereby educating people about patriotism, gratitude to ancestors and roots. In addition, this is also a stopover for tourists to visit and relax. Information, images, and stories about the antiquities museum will increase recognition, connect destinations, and contribute to promoting the development of local tourism.
Binh Thuan currently has 2 public museums: Binh Thuan Provincial Museum, Ho Chi Minh Museum - Binh Thuan Branch and 2 private museums: Lang Chai Xua Fish Sauce Museum, Mui Ne Antiquities Museum.
