Journalists and Public Opinion Newspaper won third prize in the journalism contest on Traffic Safety in Quang Binh province.

After 5 months of launching the Quang Binh Provincial Traffic Safety Journalism Award 2023, by August 4, 2023, the Organizing Committee received 31 entries to the Award, including 37 articles and reports (including 4 works including a series of 2 to 3 episodes).

The authors and groups of authors whose works are participating are mostly professional journalists and writers working at provincial press agencies and the district-level Radio and Television Department under the Center for Culture, Sports and Communications. In addition, there are 06 authors who are central press reporters residing in the province; 02 authors are reporters from the district-level Center for Culture, Sports and Communications.

The preliminary selection, preliminary judging and final judging were carefully, strictly and scientifically prepared. The preliminary judging round was divided into 2 sub-committees, including the Sub-committee for judging Print and Electronic Newspaper works and the Sub-committee for judging Radio and Television works. With a serious, objective, impartial and responsible spirit, the Jury selected 15 works to judge the final round.

In the final round, the Jury discussed, debated, and evaluated each work, considered the quality of the works among the categories, and scored them on individual scorecards. After that, they compiled and unanimously selected 15 works to submit to the Organizing Committee for award decision and ranking.

According to the Organizing Committee's assessment, the works participating in this Award basically adhere to the theme of ensuring traffic order and safety; the quality is quite even, the content is rich, reflecting diversely, vividly, and objectively all aspects of ensuring traffic order and safety, attracting the attention of readers, listeners, and viewers.

The works vividly reflect the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in localities and units. Reflect the current situation, solutions, causes and initiatives in ensuring traffic order and safety in the fields of railways, roads and waterways; reflect on transport infrastructure; patrolling, controlling and handling violations; policies and implementation of policies on traffic safety; awareness of traffic participants.

As a result, the Organizing Committee of the Quang Binh Provincial Traffic Safety Journalism Award awarded 02 Second Prizes, 03 Third Prizes, 10 Encouragement Prizes to works of good quality, meeting the requirements and criteria of the Award; at the same time, decided to award 01 collective prize to the unit with the largest number of entries.

Among them, journalist Tran Phong, Journalist and Public Opinion Newspaper won third prize for his two-part work: "Restraining railway traffic accidents in Quang Binh".

Quang Binh has 174.5 km of North-South railway passing through. Of which, the entire route currently has 217 railway crossings, of which 142 are still self-opened, posing many potential traffic safety risks. In recent years, serious accidents have occurred continuously on the railway running through Quang Binh province, mainly due to collisions between trains and vehicles passing at the crossings...

With hundreds of level crossings and residential paths in Quang Binh, there is always a potential for railway traffic accidents and “death” can be called at any time if the local authorities do not take drastic measures. This is a potential danger to passengers and trains that travel day and night on the routes, because safety now depends only on people’s awareness and luck.

Through this work, the author wants to convey to society and the community the message: requesting the authorities of Quang Binh province to promote the synchronous implementation of solutions to limit accidents, contributing to stopping the complicated railway traffic accidents at local intersections.
