Entering the hot season, people's demand for water increases. In order to meet people's water needs, water suppliers in Thanh Hoa have developed and implemented plans to provide safe and regular water to customers.

Ensuring domestic water supply during hot season Operating clean water supply for daily life at water supply works for 7 communes of Hau Loc district.

Thanh Hoa Water Supply Joint Stock Company currently manages and operates 12 water supply systems for 13 districts, towns and cities in the province with a total capacity of approximately 150,000m3/day and night, providing clean water to more than 222,000 households.

With a large number of customers, a large area, while the demand for water during the hot season increases from 50 to 70% compared to other times of the year, the pressure on the company to provide enough quantity and ensure water quality is very high. The company's provision of domestic water to customers at this time is facing some difficulties.

Deputy General Director of the Company Le Trung Hieu said: The common difficulties of the unit in the process of supplying water for daily life during the hot season are unstable power sources for water production, power outages and pressure drops occurring many times during peak hours, affecting production activities. The problem of water pollution and saltwater intrusion continues to increase, leading to difficulties in water exploitation and treatment. The management area is large, the transmission, distribution and service network system is large and has been built over many periods, making management difficult and affecting service quality. In some areas on the outskirts of towns, cities and rural areas, people still use two water sources, some customers also exploit water, causing loss of commodity water output.

To overcome difficulties and ensure adequate water supply in terms of both quality and quantity for customers, the company has directed units to proactively develop water supply plans during the peak hot season. The company regularly inspects, maintains and repairs machines and equipment of existing water plants. In key areas such as Thanh Hoa City, Sam Son City and neighboring areas, the company has developed separate water supply plans in the event of power outages. The company has also been mobilizing investment capital to upgrade sources and renovate the pipeline network, prioritizing investment capital to build booster pumping stations and water transmission pipelines in key areas. In addition, the company has proactively innovated management and operation; continued to invest, expand production, expand markets, increase the proportion of people using clean water, improve product quality and services to customers in rural areas, gradually automate the operation of the water supply system, and improve service quality. Thanks to that, the company can always monitor water pressure on the entire water supply pipeline network, proactively adjust water flow, and provide water to customers promptly.

Thanh Hoa Center for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation is currently managing 12 clean water supply projects with an actual capacity of nearly 18,000m3/day and night, with nearly 60,000 customers.

As a unit with many clean water supply projects to serve the daily needs of people in rural areas, including 6 projects in coastal areas. Therefore, the difficulties that the center faces during the hot season are not only unstable power sources and water loss, but the unit also has to deal with saltwater intrusion, causing the amount of water source brought into production to be unstable, sometimes lacking. In addition, water treatment equipment at factories in coastal areas is often rusted and damaged due to the effects of saltwater intrusion, affecting operations.

To ensure the source of domestic water for customers during the hot season this year and the following years, the center has been directing branches to regularly control and monitor the quality of input and output water, promptly fix problems, and ensure stable water supply in terms of flow and quality to customers. The center proactively coordinates with the electricity of districts, towns, and cities to control power outage hours, thereby planning to pump water reserves so that people have enough water to use. The unit also regularly directs branches to closely monitor the situation of high tides and saltwater intrusion, determine the time when the water source ensures quality to proactively store water in sedimentation ponds to ensure enough water for clean water production in case of deep saltwater intrusion.
