Affirming that Vietnam's diplomacy has made many important changes under the leadership of the General Secretary, the Indian Express (India) newspaper stated that our country advocates a balanced approach in the international arena, seeking to promote cooperation with both Western countries and countries with traditional relations, especially Russia and China. At the same time, the General Secretary also made important contributions to promoting Vietnam's position in regional organizations such as ASEAN.
Besides the field of diplomacy, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong promoted ideological education and principles of Marxism-Leninism in the Communist Party of Vietnam, while emphasizing the motto of "persistence in principles, flexibility in strategies" to maintain Vietnam's security and peace environment in a complex geopolitical context.
The Business Times (Singapore) highly appreciated the bamboo diplomacy built by the General Secretary, helping Vietnam “make more friends, reduce enemies”, on the basis of both perseverance and flexibility. This approach is clearly demonstrated in Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong’s efforts to improve Vietnam’s relations with major powers.
As a result, in September 2023, President Joe Biden visited Hanoi and marked the upgrading of the Vietnam-US comprehensive strategic partnership. This was followed by a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to strengthen the close neighborly relationship with Vietnam late last year, as well as a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin in June 2024.
On the other hand, Vietnam's economy has grown strongly under the leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Based on the Doi Moi policy initiated in 1986, Vietnam has transformed from an agricultural country into one of the fastest growing economies in Asia. Over the past decade, Vietnam's annual GDP growth has averaged 5.8%, maintaining a fairly high growth rate even during the global economic recession caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
