Recently, Korean cheese coin cakes (also known as 10 won cakes) are creating a "fever" among young people in Hanoi. The cake is as small as a hand, has a unique coin shape, and contains super long cheese filling inside, which can be stretched for a meter without breaking.

It is known that coin cake is a snack originating in Korea, quite famous.

The coin cake is about 10cm in diameter, the crust is baked until golden brown, has a fragrant smell of eggs and milk, and tastes similar to a young egg cake. Inside is a filling soaked in mozzarella cheese. This can be said to be the characteristic of the cake. When eaten, the cake has a moderate softness, a light sweetness mixed with the salty taste of cheese.

In Hanoi, one of the first coin cake establishments is located in Hoi Vu (Hang Bong, Hanoi). Although it has only been open for three weeks, this cake has become a hit, causing many people to queue for 2-4 hours. Many people, although wanting to enjoy it, had to leave because of the long wait.

Ms. Quynh Anh (born in 2001, from Da Nang), owner of a coin cake shop in Hoi Vu, said: "I was lucky to have a friend in Korea share the coin cake recipe. I tried it many times, changed the ingredients to suit Vietnamese tastes, and then tried to open a store."

Ms. Quynh Anh said that the cake crust must be in the right proportion, the dough must not be too liquid or too thick, otherwise the crust will not cook in time and will become soft, affecting the quality of the cake.

"Our cheese filling is loved by many people, it is both fragrant and fatty, and can be pulled into long strands without breaking. To ensure that the cheese can melt while still maintaining the softness of the crust, the temperature and time must be controlled very precisely, a few seconds late can burn the whole cake," the shop owner shared.

Currently, the Hoi Vu facility has 6 cake molds, which take about 5-7 minutes to cook, and each time they produce just over 20 cakes. Some customers who buy 30 or 40 cakes at a time have to wait a long time. Many customers who wait their turn run out of cake flour, so the owner and staff have to mix more, making the waiting time even longer.

Every day, Quynh Anh and her five family members mix the dough and cut the cheese early in the morning to open at 10 a.m. The busiest time is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with long lines of customers.

Because there are too many customers and the queue is obstructing traffic, the shop has switched to registering for a number and having an appointment time. "Because there are so many customers, we don't let customers wait in line for long anymore, but will record the number and have an appointment time for customers to pick up. In the morning, around 10:30 when we open for business, we will start giving out numbers with appointment times, by around 4:00 p.m. the numbers are gone and the shop will focus on returning the cakes according to the number until 10:00 p.m."

It is known that every day, Ms. Quynh Anh's shop sells 1700 - 2000 cakes, with a revenue of about 60 million/day. Before opening the shop in Hanoi, Ms. Quynh Anh also had 3 other establishments in Da Nang, Tay Ninh and Vung Tau.

According to Mr. Dung (22 years old, Hung Yen), the coin cake tastes quite delicious, when eaten it feels like the flavor of sponge cake. "I took my lover to try it, it was also an experience. In the future, if there are few customers and I don't have to wait, I will come back to support again."

Thuy Chi (17 years old, Hoan Kiem district) came to buy 20 coin cakes. After getting a number, Chi went home and returned after 2 hours. However, the female customer still had to wait another 30 minutes.

"This cake must be eaten hot to be delicious, to pull the cheese. If the cake is left cold, the crust will be dry, and the cheese cannot be pulled. I bought some for my kids to try," Chi shared.

With a price of 35,000 VND/piece, this is a rather expensive snack, equal to a bowl of pho. Many people said they came to the shop to buy it out of curiosity. However, not everyone likes the taste of this dish. Others said that the cake tastes strange but the flavor is not too special.

Currently, the popularity of cheese coin cakes shows no signs of cooling down. In Hanoi, many establishments selling this “hot trend” cake are still packed with people lining up, waiting for hours just to enjoy cheese coin cakes.
