My Thuan Project Management Board undertakes 190km of expressway by 2025

Of the target of 3,000km of expressway completed by 2025, My Thuan Project Management Board will undertake 190km. This is both a heavy task and an honor to contribute to a key national project.


On the afternoon of January 3, My Thuan Project Management Board held a conference to summarize the work in 2024 and deploy directions and tasks for 2025.

Ensure progress and quality of construction

At the conference, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Duy Lam highly appreciated the results achieved by the My Thuan Project Management Board in 2024. Many projects have made good progress such as Nhon Trach Bridge, Rach Mieu Bridge....

The Can Tho - Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway project encountered many difficulties, but the My Thuan Project Management Board coordinated with localities to resolve procedural problems to grant sand mines.

The exploitation of sea sand to supply the project is also being implemented vigorously and urgently. The disbursement of public investment capital by the Board by December 31, 2023 reached over 90%, equivalent to over VND 9,000 billion.

This result reflects the efforts of the leadership, staff, civil servants and employees of My Thuan Project Management Board over the past year.

However, Deputy Minister Lam also frankly pointed out the problems that led to some projects not achieving as planned.

Of which, the Can Tho - Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway project still has a large construction volume. The Deputy Minister requested the My Thuan Project Management Board to focus more, direct contractors to increase equipment and human resources to basically complete it by the end of 2025.

Regarding the plan of the My Thuan Project Management Board in 2025, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Lam assessed that the plan is very clear and detailed.

The Deputy Minister requested that in order to successfully carry out these tasks, the My Thuan Project Management Board needs to continue promoting the spirit of solidarity, discipline, and high responsibility of each individual to have greater strength, implement the proposed solutions, and complete the 2025 target.

Of which, 5 key projects will be completed (3 projects within the target of 3,000km of expressway completed by 2025). Notably, the two North-South expressway projects, including the Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau sections, are priority projects, requiring focused resources to ensure progress and quality.

Regarding the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project, this is a cable-stayed bridge with complex techniques. The Deputy Minister requested that construction quality and safety must be given top priority. According to him, cable-stayed bridge construction is prone to technical problems, labor safety... so it must be closely managed and supervised.

Deputy Minister Lam also noted that, in response to the upcoming merger policy, the My Thuan Project Management Board proactively rearranged the organizational model towards streamlining and stability. At the same time, it is necessary to be mentally prepared and carefully study future work proposals to ensure the transition takes place smoothly and achieves the highest efficiency.

Previously, Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of My Thuan Project Management Board, said that with the high determination of the whole team, in 2024, the unit completed 9/15 key tasks, 5/15 key tasks completed over 50%, and one project has not been completed.

The disbursement of the capital plan reached over 95%. Although it has not yet reached 100% of the targets set at the beginning of the year, according to Mr. Thi, the My Thuan Project Management Board has achieved remarkable results.

The unit has put into use the route connecting National Highway 91 and the Long Xuyen City bypass, started construction of additional items of the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway, completed procedures and technical design of the My An - Cao Lanh expressway, and the project to upgrade the Cao Lanh - Lo Te route.

In addition, the unit achieved 60% progress in construction of Can Tho - Hau Giang, Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressways, 70% of Rach Mieu 2 bridge and Tan Van - Nhon Trach; completed the research report of Ha Tien - Rach Gia - Bac Lieu expressway, Can Tho 2 bridge, Duc Hoa - My An route and finalized the project of Tan Son Nhat port, My Thuan - Can Tho expressway.

Mr. Thi commented that 2025 will be a year of economic and social recovery and development and also an important year for the successful implementation of the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021 - 2025. However, this is also a year with many challenges, scarce input materials, escalating prices...

My Thuan Project Management Board sets a target of completing disbursement of 95% of the assigned capital plan by 2025 or later (registered capital of about 13,092 billion VND, total realized output of about 11,361 billion VND).

The Project Management Board aims to open the main route of the Can Tho - Ca Mau component project (part of the North - South Eastern Expressway phase 2021-2025) before December 31; deploy the construction of rest stops, intelligent traffic systems, toll stations and vehicle load control works.

Other projects include: completing the upgrade of the Cao Lanh - Lo Te route before October 31, upgrading the road surface of the Lo Te - Rach Soi route before June 30, opening Rach Mieu 2 bridge on September 2 and completing the project before October 31, opening Tan Van - Nhon Trach project (component 1A) on April 30 and completing the whole project by June 30. At the same time, approving the addition of Nhon Trach 2 bridge and negotiating additional loans for the project.

For the My An - Cao Lanh Expressway, it is expected to complete the selection of contractors and start construction in the first quarter of 2025, reaching 20% ​​of the construction output; the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway is implementing additional items, striving to complete 100% in the first quarter of 2025.

Pre-feasibility study reports for the Can Tho 2 bridge project, Duc Hoa - My An route, and Ha Tien - Rach Gia - Bac Lieu expressway will also be submitted for approval in the near future.

Regarding the completion of expressway projects, Mr. Thi said that in the target of 3,000km to be completed by 2025, the Ministry of Transport must complete about 800km. Of these 800km, the My Thuan Project Management Board is responsible for about 190km - nearly 25%.

"We are under great pressure but also receive attention from Party and Government leaders because we are shouldering a very heavy responsibility. This is both a responsibility and an honor to be able to contribute to completing the common goal of 3,000km of expressway.

To achieve this, Mr. Thi affirmed that the unit will strictly control the contractor's construction plan and progress; timely solutions will be provided for items at risk of being behind schedule; critical paths will be identified to direct the contractor to mobilize human and material resources for construction; increase construction sites, increase shifts, etc.

My Thuan Project Management Board proposed that the Ministry of Transport support and consult with the People's Committees of Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Binh Duong, Dong Nai provinces... to speed up procedures and arrange sufficient sources and capacity for exploiting sand and stone materials for the projects.

For projects that are preparing for investment in the medium-term period of 2026-2030, it is recommended that the leaders of the Ministry of Transport consider and support in preparing and submitting investment policies and orienting the use of investment capital for projects preparing for investment to create jobs in the period of 2026-2030.

At the same time, it is recommended to support and create conditions for the Board to provide project management consulting services to other investors, thereby creating more jobs and increasing income for workers without affecting the implementation of political tasks.

Project Management Board 7 (Ministry of Transport) is urgently completing procedures to prepare for investment in expanding the 91km long expressway section from Ho Chi Minh City - Tien Giang through Ho Chi Minh City, Long An, and Tien Giang.
