The Provincial People's Council's Legal Committee supervises the exercise of the right to prosecute and supervises judicial activities.

This morning, November 14, Head of the Legal Committee of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Council Nguyen Van Khoi chaired a working session with the Provincial People's Procuracy to supervise the sector's activities in 2024, the direction and tasks in 2025; coordination with sectors under the internal affairs sector in performing tasks and grasping the difficulties, recommendations and proposals of the unit.

In the past 11 months, the political security situation in the province continued to be stable, social order and safety were maintained. However, the crime situation increased compared to the same period last year. Some types of crimes have become more complicated such as: drug crimes, murder crimes, especially crimes using high-tech devices and the internet to appropriate property.

From December 1, 2023 to October 31, 2024, the number of newly prosecuted cases was 800 cases/1,175 defendants (an increase of 169 cases/319 defendants compared to the same period last year). Of which, crimes related to national security were prosecuted 1 case/2 defendants; crimes related to social order and safety 229 cases/472 defendants; crimes related to economics, ownership, environment 336 cases/353 defendants; crimes related to drugs 227 cases/328 defendants; crimes related to corruption and positions 8 cases/20 defendants; no crimes infringing on judicial activities occurred.

The unit has accepted 1,922 new cases, civil and family matters. In addition, the Provincial People's Procuracy has exercised the right to prosecute and supervise the first-instance trial of 659 cases/1,040 defendants, reaching a rate of 91.9%, and has supervised the appeal trial of 22 cases/26 defendants. Exercising the right to prosecute and supervise the investigation of 1,083 cases/1,524 defendants, the investigation agency has resolved 791 cases/1,126 defendants.

The People's Procuracy at two levels strictly supervised the arrest, detention, and temporary detention, including supervising the temporary detention of 716 people, the temporary detention of 1,186 people, and 38 times at detention centers and temporary detention camps. They supervised the settlement of 728 denunciations and reports of crimes and handled 639 denunciations and reports, reaching 87.7%, with 89 denunciations and reports currently being handled.

Regarding the key directions and tasks in 2025, the People's Procuracy at two levels will continue to seriously implement the resolutions and directives of the Party and the National Assembly for the People's Procuracy sector; effectively implement the resolutions of the Party Congresses at all levels in conjunction with the functions and tasks of the sector. Proactively improve the quality of all stages of work, strengthen measures to prevent and combat wrongful convictions and missed crimes, strive to complete and exceed assigned targets...

In recent times, the People's Procuracy at two levels has always focused on the work of building the sector and reforming the judiciary to meet the requirements of assigned tasks. At the same time, it has actively coordinated with internal affairs agencies and effectively implemented the signed coordination regulations. Typically, it has coordinated with the investigation agency and the court at the same level to identify and handle 47 typical cases; coordinated with the court at the same level to organize 148 experience-sharing sessions.

The Provincial People's Procuracy recommends that the Provincial People's Council strengthen supervision over the practice of the right to prosecute, supervise judicial activities of the People's Procuracy and the handling of information about crimes, investigation, trial and execution of sentences of relevant functional agencies in the province.

Issue mechanisms and policies to implement Resolution No. 07-NQ/TU, dated October 2, 2024 on strengthening the leadership of Party committees at all levels in the fight against crime and drug abuse in Quang Tri province for the period 2024 - 2030.

Head of the Provincial People's Council's Legal Committee Nguyen Van Khoi highly appreciated the results of the two-level People's Procuracy in recent times. He requested that the Provincial People's Procuracy make more efforts in performing assigned tasks, especially strengthening measures to prevent and combat wrongful convictions and missed crimes.

Continue to pay attention to training, improving the capacity, professional qualifications and skills of the staff and prosecutors to ensure that all requirements of the assigned tasks are met. Promote the enforcement of criminal judgments, and prevent the exploitation of loopholes to avoid enforcement. Continue to make efforts to resolve key cases, minimize the backlog of long-standing cases, and contribute to ensuring political security and social order and safety in the area.

The Legal Committee of the Provincial People's Council receives and synthesizes the recommendations and proposals of the Provincial People's Procuracy and submits them to the Provincial People's Council at the next session.
