Community tourism destination is nearly 100% Dao ethnic group
Ba Vi is always a tourist destination chosen by many domestic and international tourists due to its available potential, convenient transportation, and proximity to the center of Hanoi.
For many years, Ba Vi district has identified tourism development as a key economic sector. In particular, tourism has contributed to the shift in the local economic structure towards increasing the proportion of services and reducing the proportion of agriculture.
Along with that, Ba Vi has a unique natural and cultural "ecosystem" rich in identity, which is the basis for the district to take off the tourism industry. In 2024, the community tourism site of Ban Mien in Hop Son village, Ba Vi commune will be built according to the community tourism model associated with the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities, the first to be put into operation in Hanoi.
According to the Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Ba Vi district, Le Khac Nhu, only 60 km from the center of the capital, Ba Vi commune has nearly 100% of the population being Dao ethnic people. This is a very special condition for Ba Vi district to propose choosing Ba Vi commune as the location to build community tourism products in the overall project and plan for developing agricultural and rural tourism of Hanoi city.
"The locality, consulting unit and households participating in the project chose the name "Ban Mien Tourist Site" with the meaning of using the cultural identity of the Dao ethnic group to identify the tourist site and cultural and community tourism products here" - Mr. Le Khac Nhu said.
Ban Mien tourist site is located on the western slope of Ba Vi mountain. According to records, this place has many valleys, hills, waterfalls and streams bordering and interlocking with Ba Vi National Park.
For many generations, people in Ba Vi commune have lived mainly on the mountains and forests to grow cassia, collect and process medicinal herbs. Statistics show that over 80% of households are involved in growing, collecting, processing and treating diseases from medicinal plants on Ba Vi mountain.
Many households in Hop Son, Hop Nhat and Yen Son villages maintain their brands, upgrade their products, maintain quality and build their reputation in the market. In addition, this location has many protected, regenerated and developed vegetation after many years of afforestation and forest protection of the district.
With the advantages of many symbiotic factors, Mien village can combine small and medium group experience activities, creating "small products" such as mountain climbing, wading streams, going into hillsides and valleys around Minh Quang commune, Ba Vi, Ba Vi National Park when tourists choose.
The launch and operation contribute to creating a model of community tourism, gradually turning Ba Vi district into a key area for developing community tourism associated with ethnic minorities, increasing the ability to attract domestic and international tourists.
Preserve and conserve national identity
According to experts, the core point for Hanoi to build a community tourism village in Mien village is to associate it with the traditional medicine profession and develop a health care tourism model. From there, it contributes to preserving, conserving and promoting national identity.
In addition, visitors can also experience health care services with traditional herbal remedies of the Dao Quan Chet people in Ba Vi. At the same time, they can experience culinary culture, enjoy art programs with live shows, simulating ancient rituals of the Dao Quan Chet people such as Ban Vuong worship ceremony, Cap Sac ceremony, Tet Nhay, Dao wedding excerpts, etc.
According to Chairman of Ba Vi District People's Committee Do Manh Hung, with the community tourism site of Ban Mien, showcasing the work of the hills and fields will bring tourists closer. Through organizing sightseeing and experience activities at the craft village such as processing and using Ba Vi herbal medicine (harvesting, chopping, drying, cooking, bathing in medicine...), tourists will understand more about the local culture.
“Since its implementation in November 2023, the district has identified many difficulties in the model such as: 7 mountainous communes of Ba Vi district do not have plans for potential destinations to develop community tourism on the map, there is no standard model for people to visit and study, the type of tourism is quite new and people have not had access to it...
Therefore, to change awareness, understand the potential to exploit and develop into community tourism products in the locality is a big challenge" - Mr. Do Manh Hung emphasized.
After the announcement ceremony, the community tourism destination of Ban Mien has received much attention from domestic and foreign tourists. During the April 30 and May 1 holidays, the facility welcomed a large number of tourists and exceeded its reception and service capacity.
The commune has formed groups of visitors to visit and experience the weekend. The response of tourists to the community tourism model is quite good. From the beginning of 2024, Ba Vi tourism is estimated to welcome 1,530,000 visitors, an increase of 2.2% over the same period and revenue is estimated at 207 billion VND, an increase of 2.4% over the same period in 2023. It is expected that in 2024, it will strive to welcome 2.8 million visitors, with revenue reaching 410 billion VND.
“The operation of the community tourism site in Mien village contributes to diversifying tourism products of Ba Vi in particular and Hanoi in general. Ba Vi district has requested agencies and travel agencies to closely cooperate with the locality to contribute to propaganda and promotion to bring domestic and foreign tourists to explore and experience…” - Chairman of Ba Vi district People's Committee Do Manh Hung added.
The community tourism model of Mien village has been basically formed on the basis of unity and consensus of the people. In order for the model to spread to the communes and villages of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas of Hanoi, the Department of Tourism recommends that the local government and the Hop Son village community continue to pay attention to investing in construction, expanding the scale and diversifying the products and services provided to tourists.
