At the press conference, Ms. Ho Thi Ngoc Suong, Principal of Dong Khoi Secondary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), confirmed that the school plans to issue an open letter to parents about watching the film Southern Forest as a way to implement experiential activities in educational activities at the school. This open letter has only been issued to homeroom teachers of each class.

Ms. Ho Thi Ngoc Suong, Principal of Dong Khoi Secondary School, took responsibility at the press conference.

After the school grasped the mixed public opinion about the film during its release, it stopped issuing the open letter and withdrew all open letters. However, there was a class that had not received timely updates from the Board of Directors, so the homeroom teacher posted it in the Zalo group of teachers and parents in the class, leading to the open letter being spread on social networking sites.

Currently, the school has stopped the interdisciplinary integrated experience activity for students in grades 8 and 9 through this form of watching movies.

Ms. Ngoc Suong also said: "The school's Board of Directors takes full responsibility for this mistake."

Regarding the reason for stopping this activity, Ms. Suong said that it was due to factors such as the time and format of the document release not being complete, partly because the film had different opinions and the activity would only be organized when there was consensus from all students. When there is consensus from all parents, the school will organize the experiential activity.

The head of Dong Khoi Secondary School said that this is an experiential activity within the school's educational plan with many different forms.

The school trusted the permission of the authorities when showing this film in Ho Chi Minh City and across the country. According to Ms. Suong, when planning, the school included this activity in the organization with the goal of creating conditions for students to be exposed to the film after participating in a reading session about this work by writer Doan Gioi.

As Thanh Nien reported, on October 16, on forums of parents of students, an image of an open letter from Dong Khoi Secondary School about organizing students to experience an interdisciplinary integration of literature, history, geography, local education and art through the activity of watching the movie Southern Forest Land .

The Propaganda Department of District 1 Party Committee held a press conference to inform about the open letter encouraging students to watch the film Southern Forest Land of Dong Khoi Secondary School.

Accordingly, parents of 8th and 9th graders at Dong Khoi Secondary School received an open letter about interdisciplinary integrated experiential activities for students, which included the following content: "Implementing the plan to organize experiential activities in many diverse forms, now in order to help students approach reading with the work "Dat rung phuong Nam" (writer Doan Gioi) through cinema to experience, teachers of the literature, history, geography, local education and art groups organize an interdisciplinary experiential period outside of school with the theme: "Beauty of the homeland - Colorful life" to evoke good feelings in students held on Tuesday, October 24, from 8:00 to 10:00".

From the content of the open letter and the message from the homeroom teacher, a parent expressed their opinion: "We support experiential activities and lessons outside of school to help students connect learning with real life. And there are many forms of experience, including watching movies. However, giving students an interdisciplinary experience of literature, history, local education, geography... with the movie Southern Forest Land, which is causing controversy about historical elements and events, is not appropriate."

This parent asked: "When planning for students to watch a movie, did the school board watch the movie and see if it was suitable for educational activities?"
