The first durian to be auctioned was taken from a tree over 100 years old grown at the CADA plantation, with a starting price of 60 million VND. Finally, a business won the auction for the durian with a price of 350 million VND.
Three ancient durians, Dona and Ri6, were auctioned in Krong Pac district.
The second durian to be auctioned is of the Dona variety with a starting price of 70 million VND. This durian was carefully selected from dozens of durian growers and went through a rigorous selection process. Many businesses offered auction prices with jumps of 200, 400, 700, and 800 million VND.
Finally, with the “determination to own the Dona durian”, the businesswoman of Hong Sang Company won the auction with a price of 800 million VND. Upon receiving the gold-plated Dona durian, this businesswoman also announced to support the locality with an additional 100 million VND for social security.
The most dramatic auction was the auction of durian of the Ri6 variety, known as the “durian queen”, with a starting price of 60 million VND and many businesses wanted to own it.
The highest bidder for the “durian queen” Ri6 was a durian businesswoman in Dak Lak with 500 million VND. She called on some people to contribute more money to auction the durian with her, to help the locality have more resources to take care of social security.
Mr. Nguyen Thien Van, Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, presented to Ms. Ngo Tuong Vi, Chairman of Chanh Thu Group (the winner of the Ri6 durian auction).
In the end, the closing price at the Ri6 durian auction was more than 1.4 billion VND.
This businesswoman said that the Ri6 durian variety is the pride of Vietnam and comes from Cho Lach district (Ben Tre), her hometown.
“The purpose of today’s auction is to contribute to social security, so winning this auction is the joy and happiness of the business. The Ri6 fruit that won this auction will not belong to anyone but I will bring it back to give to Uncle Sau Ri – the father of this durian variety,” said the businesswoman.
Thus, the total auction price of the three durians is 2.55 billion VND and the entire amount will be transferred to the People's Committee of Krong Pac district to implement the local social security program.
Ms. Ngo Thi Minh Trinh, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Krong Pac District, said that the auction winner, in addition to receiving the durian they bought, will also receive a gold-plated durian for display and souvenir purposes. Of which, the Ri6 gold-plated durian is worth 50 million VND, and the souvenir Dona durian is worth 70 million VND.
"The district will use all the money from the auction to serve social security for the people," said Ms. Ngo Thi Minh Trinh.
