Recently, Bali Acting Governor Sang Made Mahendra Jaya said: “This tax is aimed at protecting the culture and environment in Bali.”
According to a press release, foreign tourists or those coming from abroad to Bali must pay a fee of $10 through the online portal "Love Bali".
This tax will not apply to domestic tourists in Indonesia.
Nearly 4.8 million tourists visited Bali between January and November last year, according to official figures, as the island continued to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. Tourism-dependent Bali attracts millions of foreign visitors every year.
Therefore, the Bali government is trying to take advantage of this to increase revenue as well as contribute to protecting the attractiveness of this tropical island.
Last year, the Bali government had to issue a handbook of information about what is and is not allowed for tourists wanting to visit the island.
Some requirements for tourists when coming to Bali include respecting the sacredness and sanctity of temples and religious symbols, as well as dressing modestly and politely, especially when visiting holy sites in this country.
