During the G20 Summit and bilateral activities in Brazil, on the morning of November 17 local time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the inauguration ceremony and laid a commemorative plaque honoring President Ho Chi Minh in Rio de Janeiro city - where he worked when he stopped on his journey to find a way to save the country in 1912.

Recalling the historical period, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi said that in 1912, on his journey to find a way to save the country, President Ho Chi Minh, then a young man named Nguyen Tat Thanh, set foot in Rio de Janeiro.
During his stay, he worked at a restaurant in the Lapa area – a place where the upper class gathered, and lived in a boarding house in Santa Teresa – a poor working class area. Here, he not only observed but also participated in social activities, connected with the local workers and absorbed progressive ideas.
“President Ho Chi Minh’s journey to Rio de Janeiro is a vivid demonstration of the special bond between Vietnam and Brazil. Despite the geographical distance, our two peoples still share a common aspiration for freedom, equality and independence,” the Ambassador emphasized.
Brazilian Communist Party President and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Luciana Santos said that President Ho Chi Minh's struggle is a source of inspiration for the Brazilian people to this day, as well as for other countries around the world.
Ms. Luciana Santos said that the memorial plaque of President Ho Chi Minh is not only a place to mark President Ho Chi Minh's journey to find a way to save the country, honoring the great national hero of Vietnam, but also a special symbol of the connection between the two countries and peoples of Vietnam and Brazil, a symbol of international solidarity and the desire for peace.
Determined to promote Vietnam - Brazil relations to new heights
Sharing his emotions at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that President Ho Chi Minh's arrival in Rio de Janeiro was the first relationship that connected the two nations in history and has developed to this day.
The Prime Minister said he was very moved when the Brazilians told the story of President Ho Chi Minh’s search for a way to save the country “like telling the story of their family, their country, and the Brazilian people”. The event also demonstrated the good relationship between the two nations on the journey of fighting for national independence and building the country.
According to the Prime Minister, President Ho Chi Minh is a beautiful symbol of the steadfast and indomitable will in thousands of years of heroic history of the Vietnamese people. He is a genius leader of the world communist and workers' movements, a close friend of peace-loving peoples and social progress around the world.
With such great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) honored him as "National Liberation Hero, Outstanding Cultural Celebrity of Vietnam", honoring him as one of the "outstanding figures who left their mark on the development process of humanity".
The Prime Minister emphasized that the placing of a plaque honoring President Ho Chi Minh not only shows respect but also shows gratitude for his contributions to the friendship between the two countries and two peoples, a highlight in the good relations between the two countries.
According to the Prime Minister, the plaque honoring President Ho Chi Minh in Rio de Janeiro, a place where cultures intersect, will become a meaningful, historical destination, a “red address” for the young generations of the two countries to learn about history, continue and preserve the noble values that he left behind.
“We believe that, with the existing factors of cohesion, the city of Rio de Janeiro in particular and other localities in general will cooperate more and more closely with localities of Vietnam,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
The Government leaders hope that generations of the two countries will continue to promote the values and legacies left by the great President Ho Chi Minh and previous generations, and together be determined to promote the Vietnam-Brazil relationship to new heights.
After the celebration, in the middle of Rio de Janeiro city, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Vietnamese delegation and Brazilian friends sang the song "As if Uncle Ho were here on the great victory day", in the response of many Brazilian people and international tourists present here.
