The Polish government has just decided to extend border controls with Slovakia until March 2 to prevent illegal immigration.
According to Reuters, in a statement, the Interior Ministry stated that the government has extended temporary border controls in the area bordering Slovakia due to the continued threat from illegal migration.
Slovakia is considered a transit country for migrants, mainly from the Middle East and Afghanistan, on their way to Western Europe, especially Germany, after entering the European Union (EU) through Hungary via Serbia, a non-EU country. Since October 4, 2023, Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria have tightened border controls with Slovakia. This measure has been extended several times. The Czech Republic said this week that it would end temporary border controls with Slovakia.
