A good nutritional regimen after embryo transfer helps provide all the necessary micronutrients, increases the chance of pregnancy, and ensures the health of mother and fetus.

According to Dr. Tran Thi Tra Phuong - Nutrihome Nutrition Clinic System, embryo transfer is the important final step in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. This is the time when the woman has just undergone a long period of ovarian stimulation, tiring both physically and mentally. Therefore, the woman needs to ensure good physical and mental health, thereby creating conditions for the embryo to implant.

Below are foods women should eat after embryo transfer.

Good Carbohydrate Foods

Whole grains are good for health such as: whole wheat bread, brown rice, tubers, fruits, and vegetables with low GI index. This is the main source of energy for the body from the diet, helping women to have the best physical condition after embryo transfer and to prepare for pregnancy.

Stable blood sugar levels also help reduce stress, thereby helping the mother have a good mentality, increasing the chance of conception during embryo transfer.

Foods containing good fats

Good fats from plants help provide more energy and nutrients while helping mothers reduce the risk of lipid metabolism disorders, affecting hormones, and increasing the chance of conception.

Current studies show that a diet rich in foods containing good fats increases the chance of pregnancy by 3-4 times. Foods containing good fats from fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, basa fish, avocado, olive oil...

Protein rich foods

Proteins play a role as part of hormones, especially in this case endocrine hormones. Hormones determine the quantity and quality of eggs, which is one of the extremely important factors determining the success of IVF.

Foods rich in protein have high biological value, containing essential amino acids that the body cannot synthesize itself such as chicken, beef, pork, pigeon, eggs, fish, seafood...

In addition, vegetable protein from soybeans also provides many nutrients and especially contains plant estrogen, a substance similar to female hormones, helping to increase the chance of pregnancy after embryo transfer.

Foods rich in vitamins and minerals

Green vegetables and ripe fruits provide many vitamins and minerals, and also provide a lot of fiber. Some green vegetables and ripe fruits with colors such as dark green, red, yellow, purple (cherry, orange, papaya, bell pepper, broccoli, purple cabbage...) contain many antioxidants, reduce inflammation, are good for the embryo transfer process, help reduce the condition of the uterus not accepting the embryo...

Soluble fiber in green vegetables and fruits helps reduce constipation, straining when going to the toilet and increases the chance of pregnancy in women after embryo transfer.

Drink enough water

At any stage of the IVF process, the body needs to drink enough water (2-3 liters per day from food sources, milk, fruit juice, ripe fruit, filtered water).

Especially before embryo transfer, due to hormonal changes, women will feel thirsty, dehydrated, and tired, so it is necessary to provide enough water to minimize discomfort at this stage.

After embryo transfer, the woman may need to take additional hormonal medications to help increase the chance of pregnancy. These medications make the woman tired and dehydrated, and doctors even advise the mother to drink oral rehydration solution to replenish water and electrolytes.

Full micronutrient supplement

Micronutrients such as iron, zinc, folic acid, vitamin E... in food or supplements help women ensure a balanced diet, good health, ready for pregnancy, increase the chance of conception, and reduce morning sickness and fatigue during pregnancy.

At the same time, the above micronutrients are also essential for the development of healthy embryos, free of birth defects.
