Alcaraz wants to stop Djokovic in 2024

Carlos Alcaraz expressed his hope of stopping Novak Djokovic, as his senior aims to win all four Grand Slams and the Paris Olympics next season.

"Djokovic proves year after year that he is ready to win a Grand Slam," Alcaraz told Spanish broadcaster EFE on November 29. "I and the other players are here to stop that. There are players who are capable of beating him."

Alcaraz advises fans to prepare their TV packages to enjoy the 2024 season – a season he believes will be full of excitement and drama in tennis. The 20-year-old tennis player said he is focusing on developing his career, after a favorable start.

"I always dreamed of being world number one," Alcaraz added. "My dream was probably the biggest dream. I did it very early, as the youngest player in history. I'm not looking for records, just chasing dreams. I don't care if it happens at 25 or any age."

Alcaraz has played Djokovic four times this season and lost three. The head-to-head record is 3-2 in Djokovic's favor. Alcaraz is the only player to beat Djokovic at a Grand Slam this year, in the best Wimbledon final in history in July. It was also Alcaraz's second Grand Slam title, after the 2022 US Open.

"I've improved a lot, but there are also disappointments," Alcaraz said, looking back on the 2023 season, which he played well in the first half of the year. "I have a great team around me and I'm doing everything I can to improve. In individual combat sports , if you play well, your opponent can play well, even much better than you. Everyone is doing their job and we'll see."

Alcaraz has won 65 and lost 12 matches this season, winning six titles. He has only reached one final since Wimbledon, losing to Djokovic in the Cincinnati Masters final. The Spaniard has stopped in the semi-finals of the US Open, Beijing Open and ATP Finals. On December 27, Alcaraz is expected to face Nole again at the Riyadh Season Cup exhibition in Saudi Arabia.
