On the morning of March 21, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung received a working delegation from Airbus Group led by Mr. Bruno Parenti, Vice President of Airbus Defence and Space and CEO of Public Satellite Systems.
Also attending the meeting were Mr. Zakir Hamid, President of Airbus Defence and Space, Asia-Pacific and China; Ms. Hoang Tri Mai, General Director of Airbus Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and representatives of agencies and units under the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Airbus Defence and Space is one of the three main divisions (commercial/civil aviation, helicopters, defence and aerospace) of the Airbus Group. The group has more than 35,000 employees and a turnover of 11.5 billion euros in 2023.
With 50 years of experience in satellite manufacturing, Airbus Defence and Space is currently the largest and leading provider of military aircraft, satellite and intelligence solutions in Europe and the world.
Speaking to the delegation, Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung said that Vietnam's vision for the next 100 years is towards space. Therefore, Vietnam is interested in and wants to listen to Airbus' advice on satellite-related technologies.
At the meeting, representatives of Airbus Defense and Space Group shared a lot of information about the company's operations. Accordingly, Airbus has successfully launched more than 120 satellites into geostationary orbit.
It is also the pioneer in the OneWeb constellation and is currently leading the race in the Software Defined Satellite (GEO) market. Airbus also has a strong position in the Satcom GEO communications satellite market.
In Vietnam, Airbus cooperated with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to successfully launch the VNREDSat-1 Earth observation satellite in 2013. This is also a typical technology project representing the cooperation between Vietnam and the French Republic. The satellite has now been in orbit for more than 10 years, double the contracted lifespan.
In the field of telecommunications satellites, Airbus has been actively working with VNPT Group to understand the requirements for replacing VinaSat-1 and VinaSat-2 satellites in the coming time, as well as providing consulting support to the group in the above content.
In an exchange with Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung, Airbus proposed to organize a workshop with the theme "Telecommunication satellite technology solutions for Vietnam" to support Vietnam in building the most suitable telecommunication satellite plan in the future.
Vice President of Airbus Defence and Space, Bruno Parenti, also invited Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung to visit Airbus' satellite manufacturing facility in Toulouse (France). Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung expressed his thanks and said he would arrange the meeting at a suitable time.
