(Dan Tri) - At the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024, Airbus Group will introduce the C295 MPA anti-submarine version equipped with high-resolution cameras and torpedoes to attack submarines.
At a press conference ahead of the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 (VIDEX 2024) taking place on December 18, Airbus Group leaders shared about the group's growing role in the defense sector in Vietnam.
At the press conference, Mr. Zakir Hamid, General Director of Airbus Defense & Space Asia Pacific Region, said that one of Airbus' important defense products is the C295 aircraft.
Mr. Zakir Hamid assessed that the C295 aircraft is a highly flexible medium-class tactical transport aircraft that has demonstrated its quality and capacity in military transport, medical emergency and air logistics missions.
Vietnam Air Defense - Air Force is operating these 3 aircraft.
Airbus also plays an important role in developing C295 operations and maintenance capabilities in Vietnam, helping to improve mission readiness and reduce external dependence.
This cooperation helps maintain stability and safety for C295 squadron operations, enhance rapid response capabilities and reinforce Vietnam's long-term military goals.
According to Mr. Zakir Hamid, Airbus is ready to cooperate with Vietnam to develop the C295 fleet and other versions including the maritime surveillance version, to enhance Vietnam's air transport capacity as well as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities in protecting Vietnam's airspace and territorial waters.
In addition to its role in military equipment, the importance of this aircraft was also clearly demonstrated during the Covid-19 pandemic when Vietnam effectively deployed the C295 squadron to transport important medical supplies, distribute relief goods, and carry out rescue operations.
“A key feature of the C295 that other aircraft in its class do not have is its unique ramp door design, which allows for rapid loading and unloading of cargo. The ability to load and unload cargo quickly is critical when performing humanitarian relief missions,” said Zakir Hamid.
Mr. Zakir Hamid added that at VIDEX 2024, Airbus introduced the C295 MPA anti-submarine version equipped with high-resolution cameras (surveillance and infrared) to distinguish targets; multi-task radar to detect long-range targets, and torpedoes to attack submarines.
In particular, the C295 MPA anti-submarine version is also equipped with an acoustic reconnaissance system and sonar buoys to detect and locate submarines; an automatic identification system to detect and identify ships; a broadband SATCOM satellite communication system for transmitting mission data; magnetic field detectors, submarine detection, etc.
At VIDEX 2024, Airbus also introduced the H225M helicopter, a multi-role military helicopter that has been proven in real combat conditions, to strengthen Vietnam's helicopter fleet.
The H225M helicopter is designed for troop transport, search and rescue (SAR), and high-risk missions, providing exceptional heavy-lift capability.
For the first time in Vietnam, Airbus will also launch a model of the next-generation Flexrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAS) (full-scale model) at VIDEX 2024.
Ms. Hoang Tri Mai, General Director of Airbus in Vietnam, commented that Airbus has strategic advantages to accompany Vietnam in the process of national defense modernization, providing advanced solutions and technologies to improve aircraft operation capacity, stabilize the regional situation and realize long-term security goals.
