Applying AI to logistics supply chain management helps optimize vehicle travel routes. As a result, drivers can choose the fastest route, contributing to cost savings and reducing emissions to the environment.
On the afternoon of January 14, an international conference and announcement of a digital platform for logistics supply chain service price management was held in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of representatives of industry associations, leaders and managers of enterprises in the import-export sector and international partners in the logistics industry.
At the conference, Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in 2024, the total revenue from logistics in Ho Chi Minh City is estimated to reach 180,000 billion VND, accounting for 10% of the city's GRDP.
Logistics costs, previously measured at about 20% of GDP, are now decreasing and are required to be further reduced to reduce costs and prices, thereby increasing competitiveness for businesses.
According to Mr. Vu, logistics is a field that the city has identified as having much room for development in the future. Ho Chi Minh City also identified that logistics will be invested in the period of 2025-2030 and the following years to become a driving force in the growth process, thereby exploiting the advantages of transport corridors, logistics advantages and becoming a major logistics center of the region.
One of the solutions that Ho Chi Minh City focuses on is digital transformation and digital application, which still has a lot of room.
According to Mr. Vu, logistics services are currently identified by the Government as a key economic sector in the comprehensive economic development strategy. According to experts, the application of digital platforms will play an important role in enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam's logistics industry. The goal is to help reduce logistics costs from 16.8 - 17% of GDP to near the world average (10.6%).
"Logistics is the driving force in the growth process, so that Ho Chi Minh City can exploit the transportation corridor and advantages to become a major logistics center in the region. Can Gio international transit port, ring roads 3 and 4, urban railway and a series of projects to be deployed in the coming time have demonstrated the city's determination in building infrastructure as a foundation for logistics development," said Mr. Vu.
Ms. Ho Thi Thu Hoa, Director of the Vietnam Logistics Research and Development Institute, said that currently about 62% of logistics enterprises have implemented digital transformation, more than 24% are planning to implement it, while the rest are not yet ready to enter this process.
Ms. Hoa commented that technology plays a supporting role for traditional logistics. In modern logistics, technology plays a role in changing the entire management process. Therefore, digital transformation plays a very important role in the current context.
Logistics service providers should prioritize investing in a common technology platform to improve collaboration between sales regions. For logistics service users, a comprehensive digital transformation strategy can be developed in stages, such as improving current systems, training human resources, and applying new technologies.
At the Conference, My A Transport Joint Stock Company officially announced the digital platform for managing logistics supply chain service prices (E-pricing). This is a breakthrough solution expected to help import-export enterprises optimize transportation costs and improve competitiveness in the international market.
Ms. Vo Thi Phuong Lan, General Director of ASL Logistics, said that this platform integrates many features such as real-time shipment data retrieval to help businesses transparently and accurately manage each stage in the supply chain. All import and export shipment data is secured on the same platform, ensuring compliance with international standards.
The platform also applies Copilot AI, supporting import-export policy consulting and automating processes.
Speaking more clearly about the orientation of green, sustainable development and emission reduction in logistics activities, according to Ms. Lan, AI plays an important role in determining the travel route for means of transport. Accordingly, vehicles will be given the fastest and most convenient route to travel, thereby helping to reduce operating costs and emissions.
At the same time, the application of AI in operations management has significantly reduced the use of paperwork and increased automation. This is also an effective way to reduce emissions.
“We believe that logistics businesses with a clear strategy will make good use of the benefits of AI. The application of AI and comprehensive digital transformation are important goals that we are determined to achieve in 2025,” Ms. Lan affirmed.
