The Bangkok Post reported that Thai authorities confirmed the victims died from poison, but it was not clear whether they committed suicide or were poisoned by someone.
There were no signs of a fight at the scene.
According to Matichon newspaper, at around 5:30 p.m. on July 16 (same time zone as Vietnam), Thai police received a report of a body being found at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok hotel in the Ratchaprasong area, Lumphini district, Pathum Wan area, Bangkok.
Major General Teeradet Thammasutee, head of the investigation agency of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Department, said there were a total of six victims, including three men and three women. Through checking their nationality, the investigation agency found that all were Vietnamese, including two who also had American nationality.
Initial investigations indicate that the cause of death may be related to poisoning. There were traces of tea or coffee consumed at the scene of the incident. However, the investigating agency has not yet concluded the official cause.
Major General Thiti Saengsawang, commander of the Bangkok police, confirmed that there were no signs of a fight at the scene. The door of the room where the bodies were found was open. According to the reservation, the victims were scheduled to check out on July 16. All the luggage in the room had been packed and placed near the front door.
Police are examining surveillance cameras and interviewing witnesses to gather further potential evidence.

According to Siam Rath newspaper, on the evening of July 16, a spokesman for the Thai Prime Minister's Office said that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin had directed authorities to quickly investigate and control the situation, ensuring to prevent any impact or danger to the community.
The Thai Prime Minister also confirmed that reports showed that among the victims were Vietnamese people with American citizenship.
Mr. Srettha requested relevant parties to immediately take thorough, strict and cautious actions to ensure that the image of the country and tourists are not affected.
Thairath and Matichon newspapers confirmed that Mr. Srettha personally went to the crime scene to direct the investigation at around 9:10 p.m. Thai police chief General Torsak Sukwimol also accompanied Mr. Srettha to the scene.
An unnamed Thai police official denied initial reports in Thai media that six people died in a shooting.
"There is no indication of gunfire," the official told Reuters, without providing further details.

According to Matichon newspaper, at around 9:30 p.m., Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin held a press conference at the scene.
He said the six bodies were found around 4 p.m. the same day. There were no signs of a fight or violence at the scene. Police are conducting a detailed investigation and will release full information after the autopsy results are available.
According to the press conference, there were 7 people who registered at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok hotel but only 5 of them showed up and checked in. These 5 people also correspond to the deceased. Police are still clarifying the 6th and 7th people.
According to Mr. Srettha, the police suspect that the victims died from eating or drinking poisoned food. He affirmed that the incident would not affect tourism and had discussed with Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung about the initial information of the incident.
Earlier, Matichon newspaper quoted Thai police as saying that the force was searching for two Vietnamese suspects. These two people disappeared from the scene before the six bodies were found.
According to Thai media, among the 6 dead people whose identities have been identified, some were coming to Thailand for the first time, but some had entered and exited the country many times, such as Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan, who had entered and exited Thailand 17 times.

According to Matichon newspaper, speaking at a press conference, Major General Thiti Saengsawang, commander of Bangkok police, shared the sequence of events.
Specifically, on the afternoon of July 16, hotel staff came to check and clean the room where the incident took place. The victims were supposed to check out at noon but did not show up.
Hotel staff were unable to enter through the front door because the room was locked. When they entered through the back door, they discovered the bodies and immediately called the police. By 5 p.m., an investigation team and forensics team were on the scene.
Initial information said that of the 6 dead, 4 bodies were found in the living room area and 2 were found in the bedroom.
All checked in at different times on July 13 and 14.
The group booked a total of four rooms on the seventh floor and one room on the fifth floor, where the bodies were found.
Investigators have now confirmed the identities of five victims. The identity of the remaining person is still being verified.
The investigation showed that the group of people on the 7th floor had cleaned up their rooms, packed their belongings and brought them down to the room on the 5th floor, indicating that this group of guests knew each other.
The estimated time of death was after 1:53 p.m., when the group received food from the hotel's room service. All of the food was uneaten. In addition, there were five cups of water on the dining table with powder residue at the bottom. These cups were collected as evidence for the investigation.

According to the Bangkok Post , the four Vietnamese who died were Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan (47 years old), Pham Hong Thanh (49 years old), Tran Dinh Phu (37 years old) and Nguyen Thi Phuong (46 years old). The two remaining Vietnamese, who were American citizens, were Chong Sherine (56 years old) and Dang Hung Van (55 years old). On the evening of July 16, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung arrived at the scene and had a brief conversation with the Thai Prime Minister.
