The two students who won silver medals were Tran Duy (grade 12, Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted) and Tran Minh Hoang (grade 11, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted). Duy scored 24/42 points, while Hoang scored 23 points.
Three bronze medals went to: Pham Tran Minh Duc (grade 12, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong), Nguyen Dang Dung (grade 11, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences) and Nguyen Van Hoang (grade 12, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted). These three male students scored from 17 to 21 points.
The remaining member of the team, Ta Duc Anh (grade 12, Hanoi National University of Education High School) received a certificate of merit from the Organizing Committee.
IMO 2024 results of Vietnam team.
This year, the International Mathematical Olympiad organizing committee decided that the score for a gold medal is 29, for a silver medal is 22 and for a bronze medal is 16. The maximum score for the exam is 42 points.
With a total score of 118, Vietnam ranked 33rd out of 108 countries and territories participating in the IMO this year, down 27 places compared to last year (6th place). This is also the lowest achievement of the Vietnamese team in 50 years of competing in the IMO.
The 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad will be held in the UK from July 11 to 22, with July 16 and 17 being the two official exam days. Each exam day, students will have to solve three problems in 4.5 hours. The maximum score for each problem is 7. Based on the total score of the two exams, the organizing committee will rank the prizes from high to low.
IMO has been held annually since 1959. Vietnam joined this playground in 1974, now half a century. Last year, all 6 students competing in IMO won medals including two gold, two silver and two bronze.
