3 plays won Gold Medals at the 2024 National Drama Festival

The 2024 National Drama Festival, taking place from June 11 to 26, brings together nearly 1,000 artists and actors from 19 professional drama units, both public and private, with 23 plays, which are unique and outstanding artistic products of the Vietnamese performing arts.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong assessed that the festival had many plays containing creativity and novelty, showing that the Drama stage is changing in content and form. The themes reflected in the festival are quite rich, new and have predictive value. The units participating in the festival from both the public and non-public sectors brought to the competition stage many types of themes, from history to modernity, from wartime to peacetime, from rural to urban areas, etc. The art units performed seriously, clearly on ideological themes, attractive in form, highly topical, useful to society, the artists were free to create, bringing the audience many levels of emotions, conveying humane messages.

This festival has many plays that are of high quality both artistically and appealing to the public, especially many creative and new plays from authors, directors, artists, actors and art designers... In these plays, we see creativity, always closely following the issues of contemporary life, which is the strength of Drama.

The organization of the "National Drama Festival - 2024" aims to discover and honor collectives and individuals with achievements in the process of working and creating Drama art; is an opportunity for Drama art units to train the next generation of artists and actors; is an opportunity for artists and actors to exchange, learn from experience, cultivate knowledge, improve professional qualifications and the quality of Drama art performances to serve the people. At the same time, through the Festival, it is an opportunity for state management agencies from the central to local levels to correctly assess the current state of Drama art activities, promptly propose new methods of operation, find solutions to overcome existing problems, promote Drama art to develop in accordance with the reality of social life, meet the needs of enjoying art in the new era of the people of the whole country.

The Deputy Minister suggested that in the coming time, the agencies and functional units in charge of art units and theaters with artists and actors participating in the competition need to continue to pay attention and invest carefully in both human and material resources for the competitions; have special preferential policies to attract, nurture and train young and talented artists and actors to be the next generation; for some plays and performances of actors, not only do they require elaborate staging and creativity in acting, but they also require good scripts, plots, twists and explosions; not only that, artists and actors must have skillful performance techniques, must practice well with their co-stars and need good directors and stagers.

"National Drama Festival - 2024" is an extremely necessary activity that needs to be maintained and improved in scale and quality. Through this Festival, on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong requested the Department of Performing Arts to continue researching and advising on mechanisms and policies to improve the treatment regime for artists and actors in the field of literature and arts in general; especially mechanisms, policies and treatment regimes for attracting, searching, training and promoting talented artists and actors in the Drama art form.

"Also through this Festival, I propose that the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, art units, and Theaters continue to focus on and increase investment in appropriate mechanisms to attract, search for and train new performing arts talents, especially young talents, suitable for the expertise and field of the unit" - Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized.

Chairman of the Art Council, People's Artist Ngoc Giau assessed that, with an overview of the 2024 National Drama Festival, it can be seen that the Drama stage is changing a lot, with many new things in content and form. The topics reflected in the Festival are very rich, new and have predictive value. Although the Festival has many genres of topics, from history to modernity, from wartime to peacetime, from rural to urban areas, it has been performed by art units seriously, clearly in terms of ideological themes, attractive in form, highly topical, useful for society; the participating artists and actors are free to create, bringing the audience many levels of emotions, conveying messages full of humanity.

However, besides the success of the plays and performances of the actors that were carefully invested in terms of script, staging, music, lighting, costumes, etc., there are still some plays and performances of the actors that have not been invested in or given serious attention, whether for subjective or objective reasons.

At the Closing Ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded 3 Gold Medals to the plays: White Night by the Vietnam Drama Theater, Ingratitude Circle by the Hanoi Drama Theater, and Catching Ghosts by the Hai Phong Drama Troupe. The Organizing Committee also awarded 5 Silver Medals to the plays; 32 Gold Medals and 49 Silver Medals to the actors; the Excellent Author Award to Artist Chu Lai for the play Ingratitude Circle; the Excellent Director Award to Artist Tran Luc for the play Doll; and the Excellent Painter Award to Artist Do Doan Bang for the play Time Wharf./.
