The 20 most generous universities support international students with an average of $77,000 (VND1.87 billion) a year, about $10,000 more than tuition fees.
Many universities in the US have a need-based financial aid policy for international students, based on their family's ability to pay. This is also one of the ways for schools to attract international students.
According to data from 533 universities ranked by US News, the average amount awarded to international students is about $26,800 for the 2022-2023 academic year. Of these, the 20 schools with the highest financial aid levels offer up to $77,000.

The top 20 universities that offer the most financial aid to international students are all private. Wesleyan University leads the pack, offering more than $83,000 in financial aid, while its tuition costs just $67,000 a year. At the bottom of the list is Skidmore College, which offers $71,000, about $6,000 more than its tuition.
In the top 20, there are 4/8 representatives from the Ivy League, respectively Dartmouth College, Cornell, Harvard and Yale.
Among public schools, the University of Vermont has the highest average international student aid at $39,500, about $4,500 less than tuition. Last year, 97 international students received this aid.
Despite offering much lower aid — only about $12,200 — Arizona State University is the school that supports the most international students in the United States, with 2,500.

To find out if a school offers financial aid, international students can visit the school’s website or do a Google search. If they do, the school usually requires applicants to submit a financial aid application (CSS or ISFAA). When applying, students must include proof of their financial situation, such as tax documents, pay stubs, or bank statements.
