Although it rained from early morning, the union members of the units still came in large numbers, waiting for the disadvantaged households to receive gifts and carry out other meaningful activities.
A group of union members collected trash on the Doi Canal (from Hiep An Bridge to Nguyen Van Cu Bridge, District 8) by boat and barge.
Mr. Duong Huy Lam, District 8 Public Service Company Limited, the commander of the barge team guiding the members to collect garbage, said that the participation of young people in this work is very meaningful. “When you go to the field, you will see how the waste exists and pollutes the environment and the canals. From there, you will return to your unit and your place of residence to contribute to raising awareness among the people. This is a very good and meaningful job,” said Mr. Lam.
The remaining group of young people divided into groups to participate in activities of giving gifts to ethnic minority youth in difficult circumstances; giving life jackets, implementing the "safe ferry" project; giving trees to people living around the Doi canal area.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Department of Transport, said: Green Sunday has long been a meaningful activity, encouraging everyone, especially the younger generation of union members and youth, to participate in cleaning up public areas such as parks, streets, and riverbanks, promoting awareness of environmental protection and sustainable development in the community.

The selection of garbage collection activities on Doi Canal within the framework of the program aims to raise the responsibility and awareness of young people in protecting the canal environment; to propagate and mobilize union members, association members and people to join hands in protecting the environment, handling "black spots" of waste, renovating waste accumulation points around canals and ditches...
Previously, at the workshop "Promoting sustainable solutions for collecting waste on rivers, canals and ditches", Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong stated that collecting waste on rivers, canals and ditches is an activity that the city is very interested in.

Along with economic development, environmental protection is a parallel goal that Ho Chi Minh City focuses on implementing. The city always aims for a clean, green, environmentally friendly urban area with many synchronous and regular solutions.
