Less than a month before the US presidential election, Newsweek used ChatGPT to predict the outcome of this important election.
“Can you tell me who you believe will win the 2024 presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump?”, Newsweek Ask ChatGPT a question.
Newsweek also asked ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) tool, to reason out its answers and analyze each candidate's strengths and weaknesses.
“It will be a highly competitive race but difficult to predict with certainty,” ChatGPT replied, before listing the characteristics of each candidate and “factors that could influence the election outcome.”
Regarding Ms. Harris's main strengths, ChatGPT pointed out that the US Vice President has "versatile appeal", "leadership experience", "ability to focus on progressive issues" and "campaigning skills".
“As the first female, African-American and Asian-American vice president, Ms. Harris could “energize key demographic groups, such as African-Americans, women and young voters,” ChatGPT analyzed.
Regarding Ms. Harris' campaigning skills, ChatGPT commented: "She is an experienced campaigner who can communicate well in debates and at town halls. This can help her in the direct aspects of the campaign."
On the contrary, according to ChatGPT, the Vice President's weaknesses are "perceptions of ineffectiveness", "polarizing image" and several other factors.
“While she may enjoy strong support from specific demographic groups, she has yet to demonstrate broad appeal to the entire Democratic electorate, especially among moderate and older voters who may be wary of her progressive leanings,” ChatGPT argues.
Regarding Mr. Trump, ChatGPT believes that his strengths include a strong party support base, the ability to convey a strong message, a clear strategy, and economic achievements.
However, he also has weaknesses such as a polarizing image, many legal troubles, and voter fatigue.
“Some voters, including Republicans, may be tired of Mr. Trump’s chaotic management style and constant media drama. This fatigue could open the door for Ms. Harris to present herself as a calmer, more stable option,” ChatGPT analyzed.
Newsweek then asked whether Mr. Trump or Ms. Harris would win in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin.
Accordingly, ChatGPT predicts that Mr. Trump will prevail in Arizona and North Carolina. Meanwhile, Ms. Harris will prevail in Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The remaining state of Georgia is very difficult to predict.
