According to military expert Earl Rasmussen, the escalation in the confrontation between Israel and Iran in the Middle East will likely speed up the US Congress' approval of additional aid packages for Israel and Ukraine.
“An additional military aid package for Ukraine will be approved soon and the situation in the Middle East will further accelerate this. However, I am not sure about the amount or the details of this aid package,” Mr. Rasmussen said.
Mr. Rasmussen pointed out that Israel's attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus provoked an escalation, saying that Tel Aviv was waging a war against Tehran.
“Tehran has been put in a position where it has to respond,” Mr. Rasmussen added.
The question is whether Israel will learn its lesson or escalate again and what will be the US response to the current situation, whether the US will continue to support Israel and drag the entire region into conflict, Mr. Rasmussen added.
Previously, an additional military aid package for Israel and Ukraine worth more than $95 billion proposed by US President Joe Biden was suspended when it did not receive support from the US House of Representatives - controlled by the Republican Party.
Of the aid package, $60 billion will be distributed to Ukraine, while Israel will receive $14 billion. However, this figure may change after Iran attacked Israel on the evening of April 13.
Iran carried out the attack on the night of April 13 with 200 drones and missiles, according to an Israeli military spokesman. The incident was in response to an attack on the consulate building of the Iranian Embassy in Syria two weeks ago that Iran blamed on Israel.
These incidents mark a new dangerous escalation in the Middle East as the “fire pot” heats up every day.
The US, a close ally of Israel and a direct supporter of Israel's defense against Iran's attack, is calling on Tel Aviv to respond with restraint. US media revealed that President Joe Biden opposes Israel's military retaliation against Iran, because he believes that the country's interception of 99% of enemy UAVs and missiles is a victory.
