The latest data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that the total export turnover of agricultural and forestry products in the first 6 months of the year reached 29.2 billion USD, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2023. Accordingly, there are 7 product groups with export value of over 1 billion USD including: coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, wood products. Of which, rice and cashew nuts are 2 products that increased both export volume and value (Rice 4.68 million tons, up 10.4%, value 2.98 billion USD, up 32%; cashew nuts 350,000 tons, up 24.9%, value 1.92 billion USD, up 17.4%); Although coffee decreased in volume, reaching 902,000 tons, down 10.5%, but thanks to the average export price increasing by 50.4%, the export value reached 3.22 billion USD, up 34.6%.
Regarding export markets: The United States, China and Japan continue to be the three largest export markets for Vietnam's agricultural products; export value to the United States accounts for 20.7%, up 20.8%; China accounts for 20.2%, up 9.5% and Japan accounts for 6.7%, up 5%.
To achieve this result, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it has focused on implementing projects to promote the export of agricultural products to key markets that have been approved since the end of 2023 (China, the United States, Japan and the EU), opening new markets with great potential such as: Halal Muslim countries, the Middle East, Africa... Thanks to that, the product consumption market is maintained and expanded, and agricultural product exports continue to maintain high growth momentum.
In 2024, the agricultural sector targets an export turnover of 55 billion USD and a GDP growth rate of 3.5%.
In the first 6 months of 2024, agricultural and forestry exports reached 29.2 billion USD, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2023. Of which, 7 product groups with export value of over 1 billion USD include: coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, and wood products.

Fruit and vegetable export activities continue to be favorable, thanks to increased demand in the traditional Chinese market and other potential markets such as: Korea, the United States, Japan, Thailand... The export value of fruits and vegetables to these markets in the first half of 2024 all recorded positive growth rates.
Leading the way are exports to the Chinese market, estimated at about 2.2 billion USD, an increase of 33% over the same period in 2023.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, China's demand for coconut imports is very large and tends to grow steadily, with each year being higher than the previous year. Meanwhile, China's coconut output only meets about 10% of domestic consumption demand, the rest is imported. Therefore, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market are expected to continue to grow positively.
Next is exports to the Korean market, estimated at 150 million USD, an increase of 57.9% over the same period in 2023.
For the US market, the export value to this market reached nearly 123.5 million USD in 5 months, up 32.4% over the same period, estimated to reach 150 million USD in 6 months. With the second largest import demand for fruits and vegetables in the world, the US is a potential market for fruit and vegetable exporting countries, including Vietnam.
However, to bring products to the United States, it is necessary to increase the added value of seasonal fruits by adding processed products such as dried fruits, fruit powders, and canned products for year-round consumption; applying new technology to help extend the shelf life of fruits.
