A representative of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) said that in Ha Giang there was snowfall, in Hoa Binh there was drizzle... making the roads slippery and causing traffic safety problems.
On the morning of January 26 (December 27), it snowed in 3 villages of 2 communes in Meo Vac district (Ha Giang province). This area borders China, with temperatures at 0 degrees Celsius.
A representative of the People's Committee of Thuong Phung Commune (Meo Vac District, Ha Giang) informed that at 8:00 a.m. the same day, Xin Phin Chu Village and Mo Phang Village had snowfall with light rain. By 10:00 a.m. the same day, this phenomenon ended. Although the snow did not remain on trees or roads, it melted quickly, making the roads slippery.
Also related to this phenomenon, a representative of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) said that many localities in the northern provinces are experiencing fog, hazy skies, and limited visibility. If the temperature continues to drop, it could lead to the risk of frost.
Since then, the movement of drivers on mountain passes and mountain roads, which are already dangerous, now has fog, even ice and snow... posing a potential risk of traffic accidents.
To ensure traffic safety and avoid traffic accidents, the Traffic Police Department recommends that tourists who intend to go see snow and ice during Tet should carefully check their vehicles and plan their route before departure, and ensure their health and alertness when driving.
"When driving on steep, curvy, slippery mountainous roads with limited visibility, drivers need to pay attention, reduce speed, drive at low speed even when going up and downhill, turn on fog lights, low beam lights, use low gear (if the vehicle uses a manual transmission), and be careful not to continuously brake unless in an emergency situation," a representative of the Traffic Police Department advised.
The Traffic Police Department also noted that drivers need to be extremely careful if the weather is bad, the roads are icy, slippery, or foggy. When these situations occur, drivers should limit and possibly stop driving, because the vehicle's safety system, especially tires in Vietnam, are not suitable for driving on icy roads.
In addition, people also need to absolutely obey the orders of traffic commanders.
