On October 31, the People's Committee of District 1 (HCMC) held a ceremony to launch a peak campaign to inspect, handle and monitor unlicensed and illegal beauty salons in the area. This campaign will last from now until December 31, 2024.

Ms. Mai Thi Hong Hoa - Vice Chairwoman of District 1 People's Committee (HCMC) - said that District 1 is known as a locality that attracts many business and commercial sectors and is the center of economic , tourism and cultural development of the city.

Accordingly, health care and beauty services have also been born to meet the current needs of the people.

The launch of this peak campaign aims to promptly prevent, repel and resolutely handle illegal establishments that pose a risk of causing accidents.

In particular, strictly handle individuals and organizations that intentionally violate, oppose, or repeatedly offend.

District 1 requests that establishments strictly comply with legal regulations on permitted scope of operations and advertise beauty services in accordance with approved content.

Doctor Nguyen Nguyet Cau - Head of the Health Department of District 1 (HCMC) - said that currently District 1 has about 8 cosmetic hospitals licensed by the Ministry of Health , 25 cosmetic clinics, and 30 dermatology clinics licensed by the Department of Health to perform beauty services.

However, nowadays, there are more and more beauty salons, spas, tattooing and spraying establishments... which are only allowed to provide non-invasive cosmetic services. However, during the process, they still perform illegal techniques such as filler injections and liposuction, causing complications for customers.

Doctor Cau commented that these facilities operate very sophisticatedly by posting signs and using misleading words to make people trust them. Recently, many unlicensed facilities have sprung up, including in District 1.

It is worth mentioning that many establishments, when inspected and fined, will "transform" a few days later, making new business registration papers, hanging new signs but operating as before. If there is no evidence, they do not accept, the owners do not appear regularly, and the employees claim not to know.

"They have experience in dealing with it, but we will persevere in checking. To handle it, the management agency must collect evidence. Since the beginning of October 2024, District 1 has issued 7 administrative penalty decisions," said Dr. Cau.

Many cosmetic facilities and clinics have misleading "hospital" signs.

According to Dr. Ho Van Han - Chief Inspector of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health - the unit recently received 148 complaints about medical examination and treatment facilities in districts, of which 47% were related to illegal medical examination and treatment, mainly under the guise of spas, massage, hair cutting and shampooing...

Some private clinics use the word "hospital" in their advertisements and signs.

This has caused confusion for people in choosing medical services, posing many risks to the quality and effectiveness of medical examination and treatment at these facilities.
