Offending teachers are being punished

In recent days, information about the form of handling for teachers who violate regulations on professional ethics has received appropriate forms of handling.

According to the Department of Education and Training of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, teacher TPH, homeroom teacher of class 4/3, Chuong Duong Primary School, has just been disciplined with a "Warning" after more than 15 days of temporary suspension from work due to her previous move to ask parents for financial support to buy a personal laptop. Along with that, Ms. H. is not allowed to teach in class but must be transferred to be in charge of educational affairs from October 21 until the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

A teacher who asked for support to buy a personal laptop at Chuong Duong Primary School, Ho Chi Minh City, was disciplined with a warning and transferred to a teaching position until the end of the school year.

As reported by Kinh te & Do thi newspaper, in early September 2024, Ms. H. received complaints from many parents of class 4/3 about texting parents to support a personal laptop. When some parents disagreed, Ms. H. announced that she would not prepare a review outline for students. This made the parents of class 4/3 indignant and reported to the press.

Also receiving a warning disciplinary action like Ms. H. was Ms. NTV, a teacher at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School, Ninh Binh City, Ninh Binh Province. Ms. V. was disciplined for using insulting words to a 4th grade student.

Previously, she was accused by parents of insulting, abusing, and forcing students to take extra classes. Based on Ms. V.'s report and verification documents, Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School and the authorities determined that the parents' accusations were well-founded.

At Ba Dinh Primary School, Bim Son town, Thanh Hoa province, the school's Board of Directors has just decided to temporarily suspend the teaching work of teacher VTT (homeroom teacher of class 1B) and transfer her to work as a secretary at the school after an incident of beating a student, causing bruises on her back.

Accordingly, after receiving the feedback, the school's Board of Directors conducted a review and transferred Ms. T. to work as a clerk at the school. It is worth mentioning that last school year, Ms. T. had beaten a student and was also reported to the school's board of directors by the parents.

"The school is waiting for the conclusion of the town police to determine the extent of the violation in order to decide on the next course of action against Ms. T," a representative of Ba Dinh Primary School informed.

Profound lesson

The above mentioned incidents are only isolated incidents but they leave many thoughts, worries and bitterness in public opinion. Because of anger, not understanding the regulations and not regularly cultivating and practicing professional ethics, the above mentioned teachers violated the regulations on what teachers are not allowed to do, even violated the law and violated the ethics of teachers.

“Part of the responsibility for this incident lies with the school for not closely monitoring and educating teachers. The school also held a meeting to review collective experiences to avoid similar incidents from happening again,” admitted a representative of Ba Dinh Primary School (Bim Son town, Thanh Hoa). The teachers who committed the above acts also realized that what they did was wrong and asked for a chance to correct their mistakes.

According to Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Educational Psychology, the violations of the above teachers are sad for the education sector and he agrees with the strict handling of the violations, corresponding to the level of violation to ensure deterrence.

“I hope that teachers and schools will take this as a lesson to gain profound experience for themselves and their colleagues. Managers also need to be more thorough; regularly inspect and check teachers' classroom work to promptly detect and prevent similar incidents,” said Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam.
