Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) Le Thanh Liem said the initial inspection results on students freely going to the cinema to watch the movie Mai despite the film being rated 18+ were available since the morning of February 28.
Accordingly, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City reported the inspection results by phone and handled two cinema complexes that violated the regulations to allow this situation to occur.
"Regarding this, all inspectors of departments, not just the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, must work regularly. They should not only get involved when something happens," said Mr. Le Thanh Liem.
The inspection team suddenly inspected the Cinestar Quoc Thanh cinema complex (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).
On the afternoon of February 28, the manager of the Cinestar Quoc Thanh cinema complex (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) confirmed to Tien Phong that an inspection team consisting of representatives from the department's inspectorate and the police came to check the age of the audience watching Mai. The representative of the Cinestar Quoc Thanh cinema complex said that at the time of the inspection, no cases under 18 years old were found.
"We are conscious of doing things in accordance with the law and strictly comply with checking that moviegoers are of the right age. However, authorities rarely checked before," said Cinestar cinema manager Quoc Thanh.
This person added that the inspection was stepped up after there were reports that some theaters allowed students under 18 years old to watch the movie Mai.
The movie Mai is labeled 18+ because it has many hot scenes.
Previously, on February 22, Mr. Le Thanh Liem - Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - said that checking and urging cinemas to comply with regulations and ensure that the age of admission to watch movies is as prescribed on the label is a regular task.
"If theaters do not strictly follow the rules, and if we find any violations during inspection, we will handle them. This is specifically stated in the Regulations on film dissemination in cinemas and on cyberspace. The head of the cinema will be responsible for controlling the age of moviegoers," said the Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has directed the Inspectorate of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City to investigate and monitor the situation of some theaters allowing audiences under 18 years old to watch the movie Mai as reported on social networks.
