Stirring up a company that prioritizes hiring people with 'modest' height

Following the trend, some businesses may include appearance standards when recruiting, in which height is an important factor. Short candidates will sometimes lose job opportunities, but special requirements are causing a stir on social networks.

'Modest' height is preferred

However, since before Tet, the recruitment market, especially for people with modest height, has been buzzing with recruitment news: Instead of recruiting tall people to use as models for customers, this company has posted many recruitment positions in which it clearly states that priority is given to short people, men under 1m60, women under 1m70.

This recruitment post immediately created a lot of interest from candidates and even those who are not looking for a job found this job posting very interesting. Under the post, many people left "love" and "wow" emotions along with comments like:

- Is the company wrong? Men over 160cm or under 160cm?

- Wow, this place is perfect for me!

- Hehe, I passed.

A news channel that specializes in reporting unique news also made a video to "tell" about this JD and has had nearly 300,000 views with hundreds of comments, mainly from people of modest height: "My time has come"...

According to Mr. Tran Thanh Kien, the company's human resources director, the company has been recruiting people with "modest" heights since 2024.

"My company always tells the truth and does the right thing, so we never recruit tall people and then say it's because they use the company's solutions. On the contrary, we give priority to short employees because they understand the value of height better than anyone else. From there, they will advise parents so they don't miss out on the golden stages of height development," said Mr. Kien.

Short people have their own opportunities

Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia - the company's technical director - added that over the years, the company has trained more than 10,000 people to graduate from a free course called "Becoming a height development expert".

Currently, Vietnam is one of the countries with the lowest height in the world. The reason why we have not been able to raise the height of the whole nation is not because we lack something, but because the parents have not been aware of taking care of their children's height from an early age.

When I was almost at the finish line, I panicked and tried every method, but it was no longer possible because at that time my growth cartilage had completely ossified.

"That's why we really want to help parents change their perception. For short people, they will have a desire for their children to be taller. They also understand the lesson that height development ends faster than they think," said Dr. Nghia.

Ms. Loan, an accountant only 1m50 tall, was accepted into the company and said she plans to have a baby next year.

When recruiting specifically to attract workers

A few days ago, a construction company posted a job advertisement for civil engineering. In addition to the usual requirements for qualifications and experience, there was also a requirement to "pass university entrance exams at the age of 18".

Some people commented that if a candidate passed the university entrance exam at the age of 19-20, is talented and has enough experience, why wouldn't the company hire him? However, the company's special requirements and a good salary also attract candidates' attention.

According to MSc. Nguyen Mai Huong, lecturer at the National Academy of Public Administration, the priority of recruitment criteria depends on the goals of the business.

However, the fact that the company gives priority to short people is not only impressive information, but it is also a beautiful act to balance and create conditions for short people. This group of people is not considered to be disadvantaged in society, but in fact they are quite disadvantaged.
