On October 31, answering a reporter's question about a Vietnamese citizen being arrested for smuggling gold in Greece, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet said that Vietnamese authorities, including the local Embassy, will coordinate with the authorities to learn more about this information.

Earlier, Greek police said they arrested a 64-year-old Vietnamese woman at Athens airport on October 28. She was arrested for gold smuggling following an Interpol warrant.

According to the arrest warrant, the woman smuggled nearly 300 kg of gold bars by hiding them under a truck carrying rocks and bringing them across the Vietnam-Cambodia border. Last year, Interpol issued a red notice for her.

On the same day, reporters asked about some Vietnamese citizens being forced into prostitution abroad and being rescued by Malaysian police. Responding to this issue, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet said that the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia has worked with local authorities to verify the information as well as learn about the identities of the people involved and deploy citizen protection measures.

"The Vietnamese Embassy is still coordinating with Malaysian authorities to handle related work, including identity verification, from which necessary measures can be taken to protect citizens," said Mr. Doan Khac Viet.

Through this incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a recommendation that citizens who go abroad to work should go through companies with reliable addresses in Vietnam, and should not believe in unfounded referrals for easy jobs with high salaries.
