Yen Luong is a particularly difficult mountainous commune of Thanh Son district, along National Highway 70B, more than 30km from the district center; bordering Huong Can and Tan Lap communes to the north; Yen Son commune to the south; Yen Lang commune to the east; Tan Minh commune, Da Bac district (Hoa Binh province) to the west. In order to preserve and promote the cultural identity of ethnic groups, Yen Luong commune has synchronously implemented many solutions, in which the preservation of cultural values is an important and strategic task.
Muong ethnic cultural club of Yen Luong commune performs art performances to serve tourists at Hung Temple Festival
Yen Luong currently has 5 ethnic groups living together including: Muong, Kinh, Dao, Tho, Nung, in which Muong ethnic group accounts for nearly 70% of the population. In order to effectively implement the Project of inventory, collection, preservation, and promotion of Muong ethnic cultural identity in the period of 2017-2020, oriented to 2025 of Thanh Son district and implement Project 6 of Program 1719, Yen Luong commune has deployed the collection, preservation of tangible culture and intangible activities with the participation of all classes of people in the area such as: Organizing cultural and artistic exchanges imbued with Muong ethnic cultural identity such as bong dance, senh tien dance, gong performance, vi singing, rang singing, folk games, culinary culture, production tools, and costumes of Muong people currently preserved in families and residential areas.
As a locality with a very vibrant folk culture and arts movement, since the Muong Ethnic Culture Club came into operation, it has become a "point" in preserving and promoting the ethnic cultural traditions of the whole district. In April 2018, the Muong Ethnic Culture Club was established and launched with 35 members. The Club has performed, organized and participated in many cultural and artistic exchanges imbued with the cultural identity of the Muong ethnic group. The typical performances of the Club are flower dance, senh tien dance, gong performance, vi singing, rang singing...
The gong performance is the most outstanding performance of the Club. Through the performance, the Muong ethnic costumes are also presented in a unique way to the audience. Currently, the oldest member of the Club was born in 1958, the youngest member was born in 1989 and is continuing to recruit more young people to be the next generation. The artisans and predecessors are "living documents" that teach cultural features and melodies for the next generation to continue to promote.
Comrade Dinh Van Phong - Chairman of Yen Luong Commune People's Committee, Head of the Club said: "The establishment of the Club has mobilized resources from the whole society to carry out the work of preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural identity of the Muong ethnic group and ethnic minorities, along with eliminating backward customs and practices; consolidating and strengthening the great solidarity of ethnic groups, enhancing the trust of ethnic people in the Party and the State". The Club currently maintains regular activities once a quarter and participates in performing arts on holidays, New Year, meetings...; displaying musical instruments, labor and production tools of ethnic groups at schools to educate students about ethnic traditions. In addition, the Club also sends members to attend training courses organized by the district.
The Muong Ethnic Cultural Club has received many requests for exchanges and tours both inside and outside the district and province, and has received great support from the people. The establishment of the Muong Ethnic Cultural Club has restored ethnic culture, thereby creating a premise for preserving and developing the traditional cultural beauty of the ethnic group. In order to continue promoting the cultural values of the Muong ethnic group, in 2022, the People's Committee of Yen Luong commune developed a Plan to preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Muong ethnic group and other ethnic groups in Yen Luong commune in 2022. The propaganda to preserve and promote the good cultural identity of the Muong ethnic group and other ethnic minorities in the area is carried out on the commune's loudspeaker system and through residential area meetings.
