Scene of the shooting in Baltimore (Maryland, USA)
Fox News reported on July 2 that a shooting occurred at a party in a residential area in Baltimore City (Maryland, USA) leaving at least 2 people dead and 28 injured.
The incident occurred as hundreds of people gathered in the Brooklyn Homes neighborhood in south Baltimore for a "Brooklyn Day" event. Police and emergency personnel responded to the scene in the 800 block of Gretna Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. local time on July 2.
At a press conference after the incident, Baltimore police officer Rich Worley said 30 people were shot, including two who died and three who were in critical condition.
The gunman opened fire at a neighborhood party and has yet to be arrested. Some victims were taken to hospital by ambulance, while others arrived in private vehicles.
"The entire city of Baltimore is grieving the lives lost, and our hearts go out to all those recovering from this mass shooting," Mayor Brandon Scott said at a press conference.
He said authorities were investigating. "Our homicide detectives will continue to work until they find out what happened. What we know this morning is that this was a cowardly act that cost two lives and affected many lives," he said.
The gunman remains at large and his motive is unknown as investigators continue to work, Worley said. Witnesses reported hearing 20 to 30 shots. "It just kept going off," one witness said.
Mayor Scott and police are urging anyone with information to come forward to help identify the shooter.
