Chelsea's performance has been inconsistent this season, however, coach Pochettino is facing a great opportunity to win his first trophy with the London club when his team has won a ticket to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Playing at home, Chelsea pushed up their formation in an attacking direction, creating good pressure on the visitors. In the 6th minute, Gallagher curled the ball from outside the penalty area with his right foot, sending it bouncing off the crossbar.
However, Chelsea soon fell behind to Newcastle when the visitors opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Badiashile slipped unluckily, allowing Wilson to face goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, the Newcastle striker finished neatly without giving the opponent a chance to block.
After conceding the goal, Chelsea continued to press Newcastle in search of a goal. The home team had many shots but the goal eluded them for a long time.
When it seemed like the home team could not score against Newcastle, the equalizer came in the final minutes of the match.
In the 90+2 minute, a Newcastle defender made a mistake when he controlled the ball and it bounced out in the penalty area, allowing Mudryk to rush in and shoot diagonally, equalizing the score at 1-1. The 90 minutes of regulation time ended at 1-1 and the two teams had to take penalties.
On Chelsea's side, Palmer, Gallagher, Nkunku, Mudryk all scored successfully, while Newcastle only had Wilson and Guimaraes scoring successfully, Trippier and Ritchie missed, thereby Chelsea won 4-2 and won a ticket to continue in the Carabao Cup.
