The decision to stop funding UNRWA was made by many countries after the agency was accused by Israel of being involved in the October 7 attack by Hamas.

However, an independent investigation by former French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna found no evidence from Israel to support this allegation.
"UNRWA has acted and partners such as Japan, the European Union and Norway have also resumed funding. The UK government will act. I confirm that we will restore funding to UNRWA," the British Foreign Secretary announced.
The UK will provide £21 million to UNRWA to spend on food, emergency shelter and basic services for millions of people in Gaza and the West Bank.
Mr Lammy criticised Israel for unacceptable restrictions on aid into Gaza.
“Gaza residents are trapped in a living hell and the Palestinian people have been denied their right to a state for decades,” Lammy said during a visit to Israel and the West Bank last week.
