Recently, in Gia Lai province, many passion fruit areas had to be destroyed due to the epidemic, but the garden of Mr. Bui Van Toai's family (Thong Ngo village, Ia Kenh commune, Pleiku city, Gia Lai province) still stood firm against storms. Not only that, Mr. Toai's family also regularly exports dozens of tons of passion fruit to the European market every year, earning billions of dong.
Traveling more than 10km from the center of Pleiku City, we arrived at the "super beautiful" 4ha passion fruit garden of Mr. Toai's family. Located on a flat piece of land, the passion fruit garden is no different from an eco-tourism area, designed very elaborately. The lemon garden is planted in straight rows, evenly from top to bottom, inside and out. Meanwhile, the lemon garden frame is reinforced by Mr. Toai with concrete pillars according to the standard of 1.2m between trees and 8m between rows. Below the lemon garden is a very well-invested sprinkler irrigation system.

When we arrived, Toai's lemon garden was entering harvest time, with dozens of workers picking and laughing. Sitting in the camp with workers selecting passion fruit for export to Europe, Toai said that exporting to foreign countries requires many standards, including ensuring food hygiene and safety.
After 5 years of growing passion fruit, Mr. Toai has always been determined to grow organically, mainly using composted manure from his family to fertilize the plants. Mr. Toai understands that in order to sell passion fruit at a high price, it must be exported to Europe. To do so, it must be grown organically, ensuring that the passion fruit does not contain pesticide residues.
“Up to now, the family only uses composted manure, organic fertilizers and biological products with clear origins, so there is no need to worry about pests. In particular, the family's lemon garden "says no" to chemicals to ensure it meets export standards to Europe," said Mr. Toai, adding that using composted manure will help the lemons to be beautiful, have thicker skin and better quality.
According to Mr. Toai, in addition to using organic fertilizers, passion fruit gardens that want to be exported to Europe must also be airy and have enough sunlight to help the plants and fruits grow well. In addition, it is necessary to have a sprinkler irrigation system to ensure enough water to cover the garden.

In addition, to ensure passion fruit meets export standards to Europe, seed selection is also very important. After a period of research, he decided to cooperate with Nafoods Group Joint Stock Company to receive guidance on the care process as well as seed selection.
“Because of the organic investment for export to Europe, the cost of lemon gardens is also higher than the average, fluctuating around 250 million VND/ha. However, in return, the quality will be better and the lemons will easily pass the strict inspection stages of the European market,” Mr. Toai shared.
Thanks to proper organic care, Mr. Toai's 4-hectare passion fruit garden exports about 60 tons of fruit to Europe every year. The selling price of grade 1 passion fruit exported to Europe is 45,000 VND/kg, grade 2 is about 30,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, on average, Mr. Toai's family earns a profit of more than 200 million VND per hectare.
With the success of the organic passion fruit growing model for export to Europe, Mr. Toai has been sought out by many people to learn from his experience. Mr. Toai has enthusiastically shared the most appropriate organic care methods, fertilizer use, and pest control. Since then, many households have applied passion fruit production according to the care process of Mr. Toai's family and have gradually achieved success.

Mr. Ho Hai Quan, Director of the Central Highlands Growing Area (under Nafoods Group Joint Stock Company) said that recently, the Company has promoted cooperation with cooperatives and people in the Central Highlands provinces to produce passion fruit according to the requirements of importing countries. Mr. Toai's family is one of the members supported by the Company with seeds and standard care processes.
“Mr. Toai’s family’s passion fruit garden is cultivated in a separate direction, from the organic care process to the planting density and the application of science and technology in production. On the other hand, Mr. Toai’s family’s passion fruit garden is located in a quite isolated area, not close to other passion fruit gardens, so it is almost free from disease despite adverse weather conditions. With this method, Mr. Toai’s family has achieved many successes, with passion fruit mainly exported to Europe at high and stable prices,” Mr. Ho Hai Quan shared.
