In 1976, shortly after national reunification, the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts opened a training course for talented children in literary creation. Over 15 years (1976-1990), it nurtured nearly 200 young writers and poets. Whether they continue their writing careers or not, they still cultivate their passion and love for literature. For them, the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts remains their common home, the place where their literary talents were nurtured and cultivated, leading to a bountiful harvest.
The authors, who were formerly students of the literary talent training course organized by the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, were present at the launch of their new publication.
From "Bud on a Branch" to a member of the Doll House group.
Recalling fondly the years she led the training and nurturing of talented children in literary creation, poet Kim Chuong, former Vice President of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, shared: The Provincial Association of Literature and Arts was established in 1971. In 1976, based on the perspective that " Thai Binh is not just a rice-growing region," the literary creation talent training class was organized and continued for 15 years. During those years of passionate dedication, many renowned writers from across the country came to teach, such as To Hoai, Pham Ho, Vu Tu Nam, Vo Quang... along with Thai Binh writers, maintaining the practice of "studying history and scriptures" through basic lessons on literary theory and field trips. From there, concrete creative works were developed through hands-on collaboration between teachers and students on manuscripts. As a result, in the published issues of the Provincial Literature and Arts Magazine, the Association dedicated a special section called "Buds on the Branch" to publish the children's writings. To this day, the students from those training classes gather together in a shared home called the "Doll House." The writers and poets of the Doll House group have published 50 books. As their first teacher and, to this day, a constant companion in their literary creations, I believe that their achievements will contribute to the contemporary literature of our country.
Among the students of that literary talent training class was poet and teacher Pham Hong Oanh. Still diligently pursuing her writing career, after years of dedicated artistic work, poet Pham Hong Oanh has been highly regarded with numerous national literary awards and has become a member of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts and a member of the Vietnam Writers Association . She has passed on the knowledge and passionate teaching methods of the writers and poets of that era to her current generation of students. She said: From the love and passion for literature that was kindled back then, from 2014 to the present, students of the training classes have organized and launched many literary and artistic writing competitions. From this process, many collections of poetry and prose have been meticulously submitted to readers, including, at the end of 2024, the second volume of the poetry and prose collection "Duyen," containing 219 articles by 72 authors, was published by the Vietnam Writers Association Publishing House. 72 voices, each with their own thoughts and feelings, but all converging on a love for their homeland, a love for literature, and a love for the simple things in everyday life.
Nurturing creative inspiration
As one of the students who spent nearly 10 years in the literary talent training program of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, Dr. Chu Xuan Giao, currently working at the Institute of Cultural Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences , is both a researcher and a lecturer in culture at a university. He said: "The long period of study with the writers and poets of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts has instilled many good habits in my literary thinking as well as in the way I convey and explain each issue to my students. From the passion for literature that was 'ignited' back then, along with the impetus from the activities of the Nha Bup group in the present period, I, alongside my poetry writing, always cherish and nurture the dedication to many long-form literary works as a token of gratitude to my teachers."
In 2024, the writers and poets of the Nha Bup group had 12 publications released. Poet Tran Dang Khoa, Vice President of the Vietnam Writers Association, commented: "Regarding the Nha Bup group from Thai Binh, I am very surprised that from nurturing literary talent for children, they have maintained a love for literature for nearly half a century. Many of these writers have become 'robust' writers in the literary world; some are members of the Vietnam Writers Association, and some are not yet members, but their poetry is already familiar to readers nationwide. This is very encouraging."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, President of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, informed: Based on the very practical effectiveness of the training and nurturing programs for talented children in literary creation organized by the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts from 1976 to 1990, the current Standing Committee of the Association is constantly thinking about how to continue that valuable tradition. In the coming time, the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts plans to coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, and organizations to organize training courses for the younger generation. Through activities caring for literary and artistic talents, we aim to guide each individual towards the values of truth, goodness, and beauty.
