In 1976, when the country was just unified, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association opened a training class for children with literary talent. Over 15 years (1976 - 1990), nearly 200 "child writers and poets" were trained. Whether they are still writing or not, they always nurture their passion and love for literature. For them, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association is always a common home, where they have kindled and sown the literary field to create a great harvest.
The authors were former students of the literary writing talent training class organized by the Provincial Literature and Arts Association at the launch of the new publication.
From “Buds on the Branch” to a member of the Doll House group
Recalling the years when he was the head of a class to train and nurture children with literary talent, poet Kim Chuong, former Vice President of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association, shared: The Provincial Literature and Arts Association was established in 1971. In 1976, from the perspective of "Thai Binh is not just a rice land", the class to nurture literary talent was organized and lasted continuously for 15 years. During those passionate and persistent years, many famous writers from all over the country came to teach, such as To Hoai, Pham Ho, Vu Tu Nam, Vo Quang... and Thai Binh writers maintained the "cooking history, boiling scriptures" with simple lessons on literary theory and field trips. From then on, teachers and students worked "hand in hand" on the manuscripts. As a result, in the published issues of the Provincial Literature and Arts Magazine, the Association dedicated a column called "Buds on the Branch" to publish articles written by children. To this day, students of the training classes of those years gather together in a common house called Nhà Bup. Writers and poets of the Nhà Bup group have had 50 books published. As the first teacher who guided and has always accompanied them in their literary creations, I believe that their achievements will contribute to the country's contemporary literature.
Among the students of that literary writing training class was poet and teacher Pham Hong Oanh. Always devoted to her "writing career", after a period of diligent artistic work, poet Pham Hong Oanh was highly appreciated with many domestic literary awards, became a member of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association, a member of the Vietnam Writers' Association. The knowledge and the way of conveying the enthusiasm of writers and poets of that time were entrusted to her current generation of students. She said: From the love and passion for literature that was kindled that day, from 2014 to now, students of the training classes have gathered and launched many literary and artistic creations. From this process, many poetry and prose collections have been painstakingly sent to readers, of which at the end of 2024, the poetry and prose collection "Duyen" volume 2 including 219 articles by 72 authors was published by the Writers' Association Publishing House. 72 voices, each with their own thoughts, but what converges is love for homeland, country, love for literature, love for the simple things in everyday life.
Nurture creative inspiration
As one of the students who has been attached to the literary creation training class of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association for nearly 10 years, currently, Dr. Chu Xuan Giao, Institute of Cultural Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, is both doing research and teaching about culture at the university. He said: The long period of studying with teachers who are writers and poets of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association has created many good habits in literary thinking as well as the way I convey and explain each issue to my students. From the passion for literature that was "lit" that day, along with the encouragement from the activities of the Nha Bup group in the current period, I myself, in parallel with my poetry writing, have always cherished and nurtured my passion for many long-term literary works as a way of expressing gratitude to my teachers.
In 2024, the writers and poets of the Nha Pup group had 12 publications published. Poet Tran Dang Khoa, Vice President of the Vietnam Writers' Association, commented: Regarding the Nha Pup group of Thai Binh, I was very surprised because from the activity of nurturing literary talent for children, they have maintained their love of literature for nearly half a century. Many of that creative team have become "strong" writers of literature, some of whom are members of the Vietnam Writers' Association, some of whom are not yet members, but their poetry is familiar to readers nationwide, this is a very happy thing.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, President of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association, informed: From the very practical effectiveness of the training and fostering classes for children with literary talent organized by the Provincial Literature and Arts Association during the period of 1976 - 1990, the Standing Committee of the Association is currently pondering how to continue that precious tradition. In the coming time, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association plans to coordinate with relevant departments, branches and organizations to organize training classes for the younger generation. Through activities to care for literary and artistic talents, it will contribute to guiding each person towards the values of truth - goodness - beauty.
