According to sources, another explosion occurred near one of the headquarters of the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Department, also located near Baghdad International Airport.
AP news agency quoted a statement from the Iraqi security forces' media agency as saying that witnesses heard the explosion at 11 p.m. (local time, 4 a.m. September 11, Vietnam time) near the airport, in an area used by advisers from the US-led international coalition.
Meanwhile, The National reported that reports on the incident said that two rockets fell in the area near Baghdad International Airport.
According to Reuters , the attack targeted Camp Victory near the airport, causing material damage but no casualties. One rocket landed at the US Embassy's logistics center.
Iraqi security forces were unable to determine "the type or cause of the explosion and no party has claimed responsibility for the incident".
Baghdad is currently investigating, while civil aviation operations continue as normal.
US officials did not immediately respond to media requests for comment on the incident.
The Iran-backed militant group Kataib Hezbollah, which has been behind previous attacks on US interests in Iraq, has denied involvement and called on Iraqi security forces to investigate and identify those behind the attack.
According to the group, the attack at this time was clearly aimed at sabotaging the visit of the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Baghdad , scheduled to begin today, September 11. This will be the President's first foreign trip since his election in early July.
