The flag embroidered with six golden words is a play performed by Sen Viet stage to participate in the 2024 Children's and Youth Theater Festival in Hai Phong from May 13 to 20.

In addition to Vu Luan, the play also features artists Le Trinh, Hoang Tung, Le Trung Thao, Vo Ngoc Quyen, Huynh Thanh Khang, Du Bao...

Vu Luan plays the role of Tran Quoc Toan's martial arts teacher.

The flag embroidered with six golden words is a play that praises the bravery, courage, and wholehearted desire to contribute to protecting the homeland of the young man Tran Quoc Toan.

This is considered a familiar play, staged in many genres such as reformed opera, tuong, cheo...

This time, the play was written by author Nguyen Phuong and director Le Nguyen Dat chose a new way of performing so that after participating in the festival, the play will continue to extend its performances to serve the audience.

First are four performances at Tran Huu Trang Opera House on May 11, 12 and June 1, 2.

Young artist Le Trinh plays the role of Tran Quoc Toan. Artist Vu Luan plays the character of Uncle Phuong, Tran Quoc Toan's martial arts teacher.

In the past, when he was still at the Bach Long Children's Group, Vu Luan and his friends at that time such as Tu Suong, Trinh Trinh, Que Tran, Linh Ty, Binh Tinh... participated in plays, including children's plays directed by teacher Bach Long.

However, later he became more known as the main actor, singing with artists Ngoc Huyen, Tu Suong, Trinh Trinh...

It can be said that this is a rare time for him to return to a children's play. In the role of a martial arts teacher, perhaps the director wanted to promote Vu Luan's singing, acting and dancing abilities, because traditional opera is his strength.

Want your child to love history and traditional art

Director Le Nguyen Dat confided that with the play The Flag Embroidered with Six Golden Words , he not only wants young audiences to understand and love Vietnamese history more.

Besides, he tries to help children love traditional art more.

Because of that desire, he focused on the music of the play. He brought dozens of folk songs and reformed opera pieces to be arranged by musician Thanh Liem to use in the play to "attract" children.

"I'm afraid that if I just sing pure cải lương, the children and their parents might be hesitant, so I'll "entice" them slowly. For example, I'll sing vọng cổ, but not the whole verse, but immediately jump into the lyric.

It will be more attractive and also a way for children to gradually get acquainted with reformed opera" - Nguyen Dat said.

Because it is a play for children, Nguyen Dat staged the play in only about 90 minutes. The play's flow is concise, with a fast pace.

After four performances, Sen Viet plans to coordinate bringing the play to schools and touring the province. Dam Sen Cultural Park is also discussing plans to bring the play to serve audiences who come to enjoy the park.
