Case of 20 preschool children hospitalized for suspected ingestion of rat poison: Individual and collective responsibilities will be clarified

At the press conference, Mr. Vu Xuan Thinh - Vice Chairman of Tam Duong District People's Committee, Lai Chau Province - informed that on November 5, in Tam Duong district, there was a suspected poisoning incident at Giang Ma Commune Kindergarten.

The incident happened at 8am in a 25-36 month old preschool class, with 20 students and 2 teachers in charge, Lo Thi Thien and Dinh Thi Huong.

At the time of the incident, one teacher was in the restroom, the other was taking care of the children. At around 8:30 a.m. the same day, when the teacher returned to the classroom, he discovered that some children were holding pink pills suspected to be biological rat poison.

Because the teacher suspected that the children might have used it, he contacted the commune health station staff and took the children to Lai Chau Provincial General Hospital for monitoring and treatment.

After being taken to Lai Chau Provincial General Hospital for first aid, the children's health is now stable and they continue to be monitored at the hospital.

Currently, the children's fluid samples have been sent to the central government for testing to determine the cause.

Currently, the District People's Committee is directing specialized agencies and coordinating with provincial departments and branches to urgently invite experts from central hospitals to review and evaluate in order to propose timely and appropriate treatment plans.

According to the leader of Lai Chau Provincial Department of Health, up to now, 20/20 children are awake, vital signs are stable and continue to be closely monitored in the pediatric department.

In addition, the People's Committee of Tam Duong district coordinated with the Department of Health, the Department of Education and Training and relevant agencies to inspect and clarify the cause of the poisoning, determine the responsibility of relevant organizations and individuals and strictly handle the case according to regulations. Timely visit, encourage and support the children's families during the treatment process.

Mr. Thinh affirmed that after the authorities clearly determine the cause, the district will clearly determine the responsibility of the collective and individuals and take measures to handle the right people and the right work to deter and propagate to avoid further incidents.
