The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) won the Outstanding News Report category of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Awards 2024. The award ceremony was held on the evening of October 22 within the framework of the 2024 ABU General Assembly and related meetings, taking place in Istanbul, Turkey.
The winning work, titled "The Road Home - Na's Story", recounts the successful rescue of an Asian black bear in Vietnam after 20 years in captivity. The work was produced by a group of reporters and editors from the Foreign Affairs Department of the Voice of Vietnam - VOV5.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, representative of the author group of the work "The Way Home - Na's Story" shared: " Our work tells the story of the journey to rescue a moon bear after 20 years of captivity. This is the result of many days and nights of tireless efforts by the team of doctors and rescuers of Four Paws International, an international organization that protects animal welfare."
According to author Nguyen Xuan Hung, each rescued bear is given a name by the rescuers, symbolizing a new life and new family at the bear conservation facility in Ninh Binh . The bear in the report was named Na. After being cared for by doctors, Na has recovered somewhat and can move freely and play with other members at the conservation facility.
" The group is also very fortunate to be present at the ABU Awards Ceremony 2024 and win the News Reporting category. On behalf of the group of authors, I would like to thank the leaders of Voice of Vietnam, VOV1 News Department, and colleagues for their support throughout the competition.
This event is also an opportunity for the group to learn how domestic and foreign colleagues use technology, especially artificial intelligence technology, in producing different types of journalism in more creative and effective ways, " said Nguyen Xuan Hung.
Previously, VOV delegates attending the 2024 ABU General Assembly also participated in a discussion on the role of journalists and VOV staff during the devastating storm No. 3 that hit Vietnam last September.
Nearly 300 delegates from many countries gathered in Istanbul, Türkiye, on October 22 (local time) to attend the official opening ceremony of the 61st ABU General Assembly.
