While cooking, Ms. NTS (43 years old, living in Long An) reached for something on the shelf when the scissors suddenly fell down, hitting her left wrist, causing the radial artery to almost completely rupture, blood spurting out.
Immediately after the incident, the family quickly took Ms. S. to Xuyen A Long An General Hospital for emergency treatment. Upon admission, the doctors urgently examined and assessed the condition of the wrist injury. Although the wound was small, its depth had caused serious damage to the left radial nerve bundle. Immediately, the doctor performed temporary hemostasis in preparation for emergency surgery to explore the wound and suture the injury.
On November 5, specialist doctor Nguyen Bao Trung (Orthopedic Trauma Department - Xuyen A Long An General Hospital) said that during the surgery, the doctor conducted an exploration and discovered that the patient's left radial artery was almost completely torn (9/10). In addition, the pronator quadratus and flexor pollicis longus were also partially torn. The doctors decided to suture the radial artery using microsurgery - an advanced technique in vascular surgery, helping to restore blood circulation effectively and quickly.
After about 5 days of inpatient treatment, the wound's general condition recovered well and the patient was discharged home.
Dr. Trung said that microsurgery is a breakthrough in the reconstruction of the structure and function of body parts. This technique plays a key role in repairing small but complex structures such as blood vessels and nerves, which are often only a few millimeters in diameter. By using a microscope, specialized tools and the surgeon's dexterity, microsurgery has reconstructed parts to help patients return to normal life and activities.

Beware of sharp objects in the kitchen
Dr. Trung said that every year the hospital receives many cases of work-related and domestic accidents with serious injuries. These accidents not only affect the workers themselves but also have a major impact on their families, especially when they are the main economic pillars.
To minimize the risk, doctors recommend that people be careful when using knives, forks and sharp objects in the kitchen. These objects should be placed in a safe place, away from places where they can easily fall to protect themselves and their families from unfortunate accidents.
In addition to paying attention to safety in daily life, equipping yourself with first aid skills is also necessary to handle emergency situations. When discovering an accident victim, people around should calmly provide first aid, temporarily bandage the wound to minimize blood loss and quickly take the victim to the nearest medical facility. This is an important factor in minimizing risks, limiting damage and increasing the chance of a full recovery for the victim.
