Including combat and performance events, martial arts contributed 68/136 gold medals, accounting for 50% of the gold medals of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 32nd SEA Games.
Among the martial arts, wrestling contributed 13 gold medals, the highest achievement of the team. The following sports include Vovinam (7), karate (6), wushu (6), taekwondo (6), kun Bokator (6), kun Khmer (5), kick boxing (4)...
However, Vietnamese martial arts athletes need to quickly move to a higher arena such as the 19th Asiad, especially the 2024 Olympics when only a few martial arts are listed in the competition events such as boxing, taekwondo, judo, wrestling...
Boxing
Of the two gold medals won by Bui Phuoc Tung and Ha Thi Linh at the 32nd SEA Games, only the 71kg weight class of the male boxer of the military team will be included in the 2024 Olympic competition program.
Currently, the 2024 Olympic organizing committee has announced 13 official weight categories to compete at the Olympics taking place in Paris, France next summer, including:
Men's Boxing: 51kg - 57kg - 63.5kg - 71kg - 80kg - 92kg - Over 92kg (+92kg)
Women's Boxing: 50kg - 54kg - 57kg - 60kg - 66kg - 75kg
Taekwondo
Unfortunately for the two athletes Ly Hong Phuc (74kg) and Pham Dang Quang (63kg), the two weight categories in which they just won the 32nd SEA Games gold medal are not among the four men's weight categories announced by the 2024 Olympics to date, including 58kg - 68kg - 80kg and over 80kg.
In the women's category, the weight classes in which Vietnamese representatives won silver medals such as Truong Thi Kim Tuyen (49kg), Bac Thi Khiem (67kg) and Nguyen Thi Huong (73kg) or Vu Thi Dung (bronze medal 57kg) are all available at the 2024 Olympics.
However, the opportunity for Vietnamese female athletes to attend the 2024 Olympics is not much when we face great difficulties in competing for tickets to participate with powerful countries such as Thailand, the Philippines or even Cambodia.
Judo
Besides the 52kg weight class that Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy competed in at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which will still be maintained at next year's Games, the weight classes at the Paris Olympics where Vietnamese athletes just won the 32nd SEA Games gold medal include: Hoang Thi Tinh (48kg women), Le Anh Tai (90kg men), Chu Duc Dat (60kg men).
Object
Besides judo, wrestling is the martial art with the most competitions at the 2024 Olympics with 18 weight classes (6 men's freestyle wrestling classes, 6 men's classical wrestling classes and 6 women's freestyle wrestling classes).
Of which, 5 out of 6 SEA Games 32 women's freestyle wrestling gold medalists Nguyen Thi Xuan (50kg), Nguyen Thi My Trang (57kg), Nguyen Thi My Hanh (62kg), Lai Dieu Thuong (68kg) and Dang Thi Linh (76kg) all have plans to compete in the 2024 Olympics.
The men's freestyle wrestling events at the Olympics include: 57kg, 65kg, 74kg, 86kg, 97kg and 125kg. In the 65kg and 74kg categories, we won the 32nd SEA Games gold medal thanks to the efforts of athletes Nguyen Xuan Dinh and Can Tat Du.
In the classical wrestling category, the 60kg category that Bui Tien Hai just won a gold medal in is also included in the 2024 Olympic competition program.
