Vinamilk accompanies the series of activities of the Green Development Journalism Club

ANTD.VN - Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) has accompanied and actively participated in the series of activities of the Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper and the Green Development Journalism Club towards Net Zero Carbon.

One of the notable activities in this program is the press and media discussion accompanying green development enterprises with the theme “Action towards Net Zero”. The discussion was jointly organized by the Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper, the Babo Press Cultural Center – Vietnam Journalists Association and the Green Development Journalism Club towards Net Zero Carbon with the participation of representatives of leaders of a number of press agencies and enterprises.

The panelists were representatives of a number of businesses and leaders of press agencies.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh - Executive Director of Research and Development of Vinamilk shared about the opportunities and challenges when practicing sustainable development towards Net Zero. Regarding opportunities, investing and practicing sustainable development activities early will help businesses reduce costs and gain much greater benefits in the future. Vinamilk estimates that the money from saving resources in the present and future will bring higher benefits than the initial investment costs, especially when the price of raw materials/fuels is increasingly expensive.

In addition, practicing sustainable development also helps build consumer and community trust in the products and services of businesses. Consumers are also the driving force that forces businesses to practice sustainable development. They are more concerned about environmental issues outside of product quality, and increasingly demand high-quality green products produced by sustainable businesses.

In the context that many countries in the world are establishing “green fences” in the fields of import and export, investment, and tariffs, pursuing a sustainable development strategy will also help businesses be more proactive in adapting to the new game. At the same time, the sooner businesses invest and implement sustainable development activities, the more opportunities they have to become pioneers and leaders in the field of production and business.

Vinamilk has been applying technologies that help reduce emissions and are environmentally friendly, such as operational management software to increase efficiency, optimize energy for machinery and equipment, use LGV robots to replace old forklifts to reduce emissions by up to 62%, or heat recovery systems to recover up to 92% of excess heat and reuse it to save electricity. In addition, factories and farms are also gradually switching from fossil fuels such as DO, FO oil... to using green energy sources such as solar energy, CNG, biomass, Biogas... to save electricity and limit harmful emissions to the environment.

In May this year, the company announced that two units, Vinamilk Nghe An Factory and Vinamilk Nghe An Farm, had achieved carbon neutrality according to PAS 2060:2014 standards. This is the result of a "double action", efforts to reduce emissions in production and livestock farming, while maintaining the company's green tree fund to absorb greenhouse gases over the years.

Vinamilk promotes the use of solar energy.

One of the challenges of practicing sustainable development is that it requires a huge initial investment, many businesses lack experience and do not have specialized personnel for this activity, product costs may increase due to increased input costs, etc. However, from another perspective, Vinamilk representative said that environmental protection actions such as reducing plastic waste, saving water, electricity, etc. are almost cost-free and can be done immediately.

Leading dairy enterprises have set a roadmap and emission reduction targets for each stage, but to ensure the common goal of Net Zero 2050, solidarity, determination and cooperation from all enterprises, the Government and the people are needed.

Talking about the role of the media in general and the press in particular in the sustainable development of enterprises, Vinamilk's representative assessed that the parallel of enterprises and the press in the story of sustainable development is very important. Quoting Mr. Alex Haigh, Asia Pacific CEO of Brand Finance - a global brand valuation unit that ranked Vinamilk in the Top 5 most sustainable dairy brands in the world, an important part that helps enterprises achieve the above results is to be open, communicate clearly and regularly about sustainable development, with transparent and specific information through media channels and especially the press, promoting interest in sustainable development.

Vinamilk cooperates with Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper to plant trees towards Net Zero in the period 2023 - 2027. The first project planted more than 1,000 trees in Me Linh, Hanoi.

Mr. Khanh emphasized that media such as newspapers play an important role in communicating, raising awareness and making individuals, communities and society aware of sustainable development, the need for more sustainable production and consumption models, and at the same time encouraging them to act towards change, for a more sustainable future. Thereby, consumers and communities also join hands in the common development strategy of enterprises, for the common goal of green and sustainable development.
