Vinachem implements National Mineral Planning to ensure green and sustainable production

On the morning of December 20 in Lao Cai, Vietnam Chemical Group (Vinachem) held a conference to implement the National Mineral Planning, ensuring green production.

Conference on implementing the Planning for exploration, exploitation, processing and use of minerals for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 (referred to as the National Mineral Planning) according to Decision No. 866/QD-TTg dated July 18, 2023 of the Prime Minister (referred to as Decision No. 866) with the participation of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, representatives of ministries, branches, management agencies, experts and leaders of the group and member units of Vinachem.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Mr. Phung Quang Hiep, Chairman of the Board of Members of the Vietnam Chemical Group, emphasized the important role of Decision No. 866 in guiding the exploration, exploitation, processing and use of minerals in Vietnam. He highly appreciated the role of apatite ore in the production of phosphorus fertilizers, making an important contribution to ensuring national food security. Along with that is the issue raised in the implementation of the Plan.

As a key player in the field of mining, processing and using apatite ore in Vietnam, with about 60% of apatite ore used in Vinachem's fertilizer production, Vinachem is considered by the Government and ministries and branches as a pioneer in implementing key projects on mining, processing and using apatite ore in Vietnam.

With a system of extensive affiliated units, widely distributed in many related fields, throughout the history of more than 55 years, it has created a closed internal supply chain, covering the whole country, supplying the market with diverse fertilizer product lines serving agricultural production, contributing significantly to the implementation of the political task of ensuring national food security.

To effectively implement the Plan, helping to increase proactiveness and sustainability in the exploitation, processing and use of apatite ore, Vinachem leaders said that, as both an implementing unit and a center for orientation and organization of green and sustainable exploitation and processing activities, in the period of 2021-2030, Vinachem will increase innovation in exploitation technology, apply modern technology in exploitation at deep mines to reduce costs and resource loss.

Effective resource management ensures rational exploitation, avoids waste, and balances domestic and export needs.

Along with that, increase deep processing by focusing on producing high value-added products, minimizing the export of raw resources.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Phung Ngoc Bo, Head of the Group's Technical Department, reaffirmed the commitment to sustainable development in the exploration, exploitation and processing of apatite ore. Conduct exploration, exploitation and processing of apatite ore in accordance with national and local planning. Promote technological innovation, towards efficient exploitation, green economy and circularity. On that basis, the Group has developed and issued a Plan to implement the National Mineral Planning in Decision No. 266/QD-HCVN dated October 2, 2024.

“Apatite ore is a strategic raw material for the fertilizer and chemical industry in Vietnam. With the existing resources in Lao Cai, Vinachem – through Vietnam Apatite Company Limited – has played an important role in ensuring supply for key economic sectors, especially agriculture and the chemical industry, ” the Minister emphasized.

At the conference, experts also presented papers, thereby providing many in-depth perspectives and important proposals such as: Processing apatite ore for application in industry and life by Assoc. Prof. Dr. La The Vinh, Vice Principal of the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, sharing innovations in apatite processing technology, opening up many potentials for the industry; Solutions for processing poor apatite ore by Prof. Dr. Vu Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Institute of Industrial Chemistry, emphasized the need for technological innovation to increase the efficiency of using poor apatite ore; Impact of declining quality of selected ore by Mr. Vu Viet Tien, General Director of DAP No. 2 Joint Stock Company - Vinachem, proposing innovative solutions to help increase production efficiency.

Receiving the opinions exchanged at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu - Deputy General Director in charge of the Group made conclusions, gave specific directions, and assigned tasks to each industry group and unit to synchronously and effectively implement the solutions discussed at the conference into practice. Along with that, the Group proposed recommendations to competent management agencies to jointly propose solutions to promote the implementation of the national mineral planning according to Decision No. 866/QD-TTg dated July 18, 2023 of the Prime Minister.

It can be affirmed that the conference is an opportunity for delegates to discuss and suggest solutions to handle existing problems in the exploitation, processing and use of apatite ore in Vietnam, including the risk of resource depletion, negative impacts on the environment and barriers in implementing the licensing and mining process. With the spirit of cooperation, understanding and connection between stakeholders, Vinachem hopes that the solutions after the conference will be implemented and put into practice to bring about many effective results.

By organizing a large-scale conference with the participation of representatives of management agencies, experts and units exploiting, processing and using apatite ore, Vinachem clearly demonstrated its determination and affirmed its strategic role in implementing Decision No. 866 in the orientation of mineral exploration, exploitation, processing and use in Vietnam.
