On the morning of November 8, the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) announced that in Fortune's "Change the world 2024" ranking, Viettel ranked 3rd out of more than 50 global enterprises with important contributions to sustainable development and positive impacts on society.

“Change the world” is a Fortune ranking, conducted annually since 2015, honoring businesses that make important contributions to sustainable development and have a positive impact on society. Viettel ranked third for its efforts to improve the quality of education in Vietnam and 10 foreign markets where Viettel invested through the school Internet project. Viettel is the only Vietnamese company in the ranking. In Asia, there are 8 ranked businesses, operating in the fields of services, retail, e-commerce, energy, and agriculture. Viettel is also the only enterprise operating in the telecommunications sector in this year's ranking.

Viettel is highly appreciated for its contribution to education quality - one of the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

Over the past 10 years, the list has honored many of the world's largest technology companies such as Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, Intel, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Tencent. The companies on the list have demonstrated their pioneering role in solving the world's major problems, from climate change, inequality to public health. Fortune evaluates businesses based on criteria including measurable social impact such as the scope, nature and sustainability of their operations and the level of innovation and creativity of their operations compared to other companies in the same industry. Viettel is highly appreciated for its contribution to the quality of education - one of the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations - through its school internet initiative. This result affirms Viettel's leading role in the field of digital infrastructure, with its innovative approach and sustainable positive impact on society. School Internet is a non-profit initiative launched in 2008 with the goal of providing internet access to 100% of educational institutions in Vietnam. To date, the program has provided free internet access to more than 46,000 educational institutions across 63 provinces and cities and more than 10 countries, especially in rural and remote areas. With an investment cost of about VND 2,000 billion over 16 years of implementation, Viettel has developed digital infrastructure for education, including transmission infrastructure, data processing infrastructure, solutions to ensure information security in the education sector and connection devices in schools. Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel, said: “ With the mission of popularizing the internet , Viettel connects ultra-broadband by fiber optic cable to all schools, creating conditions for teaching and learning applications to explode. Not only providing connection infrastructure, Viettel is responsible for researching and developing technologies serving the education sector, providing applications and content, implementing the construction of a national database on education, implementing an electronic education system, including building an online learning document repository, an online teaching and learning system, etc. ” Recently, according to Brand Finance's assessment, Viettel is also the Vietnamese enterprise most highly rated for sustainable development and the strongest telecommunications brand in Asia in 2024.
