Vietnam and India promote maritime cooperation and maritime law enforcement

During the 4th Vietnam-India Maritime Security Dialogue held on August 16 in Hanoi, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said the two sides discussed promoting maritime cooperation and maritime law enforcement.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai, Deputy Head of the National Border Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Indian delegation was led by Ms. Muanpuii Saiawi, Director of the Department of Disarmament and International Security, Ministry of External Affairs of India.

This is an annual cooperation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries that began with a meeting in Hanoi in March 2019 to discuss maritime cooperation between the two countries and maritime issues of mutual concern. The second dialogue was held online in April 2021 and the third dialogue was held in New Delhi, India in June 2023.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen their joint efforts in areas such as marine scientific research, ocean economy, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), cooperation between the Navies and Coast Guards and maritime law enforcement between the two countries. India and Vietnam agreed to hold the next round of the dialogue in New Delhi, at a mutually convenient time.
