Deputy Prime Minister visits Maersk Group showroom and listens to introduction of container ship model using bio-methanol fuel
Delighted to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk Group, said that the group's first ship docked at a Vietnamese port in 1923. Following the tradition of more than 100 years, Maersk continues to invest in Vietnam's maritime transport sector. “Maersk's projects will support businesses in Vietnam to increasingly facilitate import and export activities, connecting "goods legs" and industrial parks across the country," said Mr. Vincent Clerc, affirming his strong commitment to developing green shipping, using green energy sources, to achieve the goal of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions to 0 (Net Zero) in all activities of the group by 2040; at the same time promoting digital transformation, increasing automation in smart seaport operations. At the meeting, Maersk's leaders introduced to the Deputy Prime Minister and the delegation some of the group's outstanding performance and projects in the world and in Vietnam. With a history of 120 years, the group is currently present in over 130 countries with more than 100,000 employees. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated Maersk's strong transformation in the field of maritime transport and logistics towards green and smart trends. The Deputy Prime Minister said that as a maritime nation, Vietnam identifies the maritime economy as a key sector, in which the seaport system is of particular importance in terms of national defense and security and is located on international shipping routes. In addition, the Vietnamese economy is increasingly integrating deeply with the world economy. “Maersk's strategy is consistent with Vietnam's choice of green development, Net Zero, as well as building a large-capacity port and logistics infrastructure system, as well as building a maritime transport fleet,” said the Deputy Prime Minister, affirming that Vietnam prioritizes choosing corporations with experience, capacity, and innovative and technological development models such as Maersk as strategic partners to invest in the construction and operation of large seaports such as Cai Mep, Lach Huyen, Lien Chieu, etc., in line with the trend of green transformation, digital transformation, building green ports, smart ports, ensuring effective competition in energy, services, and transportation costs.Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha hopes Maersk will study and expand investment in the field of logistics transport by rail, inland waterways, and coastal routes.
The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Maersk Group cooperate closely with Vietnamese enterprises and partners, propose solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles to facilitate foreign enterprises and investors to participate in the field of maritime transport and logistics, in the spirit of "harmonious benefits, shared risks", "when investing in Vietnam, it is also a Vietnamese enterprise".
