To develop the semiconductor industry, Vietnam needs to focus on developing the design part and forming many startups to participate in this stage, aiming to be number 1 in Southeast Asia in terms of quantity by 2030.
The above information was given by Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, Director of FPT Semiconductor, at an event held in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of October 31.
According to Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, recently there was a meeting with Vietnamese experts in the field of semiconductor microchips from all over the world to discuss the development strategy of this industry in Vietnam in the coming time.
To develop semiconductors, experts say, Vietnam needs to focus on developing high-quality human resources; focus on design, form startups participating in the semiconductor design stage and aim to become number 1 in Southeast Asia in terms of the number of semiconductor design companies by 2030.
At the same time, Vietnam also needs to strive to become the number 1 country in Southeast Asia in testing and packaging in the field of semiconductor microchips.
The focus on testing and packaging, according to Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, stems from the US Government's desire to reshape the supply chain in the semiconductor industry in the world, and at the same time wants to support Vietnam to participate in this field.
FPT Semiconductor's director also revealed that FPT will participate in testing and packaging, however, it will not participate much in the packaging stage because this field requires a lot of investment in machinery, engineers and workers.
Therefore, FPT will participate in the testing field because in this stage the ratio of machines and engineers will be about 50-50, even needing more engineers.
In addition, the testing field is not the same process as Intel is doing, but will be based on many different types of chips. In the packaging field, the company also focuses only on R&D.
